Does this also unlock my vodafone t610 for use with different operators or is it still locked to vodafone sims?

You need to buy a log. You can buy the from many places including http://www.logosunlimited.co.uk/remote_unlocking.htm

Cobbler: what kind of cable do I need to perform this flashing to remove the customization on my T616? I have a Sony Ericsson DCU-11 USB cable. Can I just use a Sony Ericsson-branded serial cable, or do I need to order a special "unlocking cable"?

Hi

You need a T28 serial cable but not the official SE cable.

Cobbler: have you tried to update your phone at a :SE: servicepoint to the latest non-vodafone software version? This message was posted from a T68i

No, there isn't one in the town where I live.
Does the SE software centres remove all the Vodastuff as well then?
When I say all the vodastuff I mean the screensaver and the voda theme.

Cobbler - where did you get your cable? They seem to vary a lot in price and it's never that clear what you can and can't do with them if you ask me. There seems to be different cables available, but not all of them do the unlocking/flashing. TIA

You don't have to have the sim in the phone to flash it. Cobbler is that the only firmware you could find? R1A is pretty early. Did you downgrade or what?

Hi

As I stated in another post, I read on another site that in order to flash R1L you need a modified T28 cable because R1L flashes the modem chip as well, and if the T28 cable is not modified it can damage the phone, so I opted for the same software version that I already have.
The whole point in flashing my phone was to get rid of the vodacrap stuff which was succesful in terms of the menu icons and the live softkey.
The cable I have cost me a tenner from some site I found in google.
I received it the next day as well with free delivery in UK.
You can acquire the cable here
