Well Orange have to modify phones in order to enable services like line2 for their phones which by defualt are disabled. The Orange logo on the phone thing has always been a bit of a pain but tbh doesn't bother me that much.

Orange used to be very good when Hans Snook was in charge but ever since he left and France Telecom bought them things have started going down the pan. There has been some recent good news though for Orange customers coming to the end of their contracts...

If you phone up Orange and go through to the dept for getting your PAC and tell them you are leaving to go to 3 because of their excellent tariffs then Orange are now OVPing the 3 VT tariffs which are by far the best tariffs available in the UK right now. Unfortunately they are only OVPing 3 tariffs for those wanting to leave - and you have to take out an upgrade at the same time - but that isn't a problem if you were planning to upgrade anyway!

Orange still has several things going for it, it is substantially cheaper for many people than other networks (if you know about the OVP tariffs and various other money saving tricks), the network is one of the best in the UK on the whole. As for customer services they can be rather hit and miss depending on the operative you get to speak to. Someone made rather a good analogy for OCS the other day that I liked - they are like a snake - you just have to know where to grab them! As with many CS departments you can often get what you want by phoning them up a couple of times until you get the answer you wanted - at least OCS is free on most tariffs and is also available on a freephone number anyway if you have a landline.

I basically find Orange to be the best of a bad bunch - but they are deteriorating steadily. Once 3 have some decent handsets (like the Z1010) and get high speed data up and running then I expect they will be a strong contender - but they still have some issues to sort out before they become a viable alternative for me.

@ Simon69

I have been with Orange for 7 years and I agree that since Hans Snook left, France Telecom are only just getting it together. When they first took over they were the only network not offering free texts on tariffs and brought in Your Plan which made them look very expensive. The WAP charges were poo as well (Thank god for access pack). The customer service had always been fine. They are still in my opinion the best but if you had asked me about a year ago then I would of said the opposite. They need to further slash the GPRS internet charges (I have been using the free e-mail promo which is 30mb a month)and MMS charges. Who the f**k wants to pay 40p a message or commit to buying a bundle. Pointless. Orange have had MMS for almost a year and me and my mates dont use it cause its easier to send by POP3. Orange are you listening?

I agree with the above points. I have been with orange for about 4 years and its the detioration of service that gets me. It was the best.

I buy my phones through Carphone Warehouse, and use Voda.

I seem to avoid the problems associated with the network service providers as phone/contract providers, whilst CPW seem to have good instore and support centre knowledge.

I'd recommend them...

Steven.

Quote:They can't help me with my phone
It's new out, and the staff haven't been trained. So no better than you then.

Quote:They can't upgrade my software.
Why should they? They don't make the phone, and it's not as if you have a fault which would be solved by upgrading. Once the new software version is released to Orange all the replacement stock will be updated, then you can get the updated version if, and only if you have a fault which warrants a replacement

Quote:Their customer service personel are useless and rude.
They most certainly are not. I get rude with customers when they demand things they aren't entitled to and insult me personally because they can't have their way. Besides, we never seem to recieve any training now - Orange launched a dozen new talkplans but neglected to tell CS anything about it, same goes for the web-only deals.

Quote:They add dumb ass pictures to my phone and a stupid logo branded on the front.
Personally I think the Orange theme is quite good. And their 'stupid logo' as you call it, as well as the branding is what makes Orange the second most recognised brand in the world.

ok jimbob i agree with most of those points but i want to make some of my own

1) why if we want a SW upgrade do we have to wait for the orange version to come out why cant we jus get a Se version.

2) that logo on the phone is uncalled for. i understand putting themes and pics but they all shoudl be removable.

3) and customer service was brilliant with me till they cut me off for abusing there free sms service. i had 1p on my phoen for abotu 6 months and was sending my 5sms aday and no more and useing my o2 sim for everytin else so 1 say i got a sim update and it woulden twork so i phoned them up and asked what had happened and i had been cut off end of story.
