If you are in a low coverage area, or the network is busy, do you get the 'Failed' message. If this is the case, maybe it is just my coverage. If you get some other message, maybe I'm not in the WAP database.
Also, the username, passwords etc. for the data account are supposed to be in caps, right? I've checked and rechecked the settings so many times, but still I get 'Failed'. Very frustrating.
Cingular told me there is 'no way' my phone will access WAP on their network. Though I know they are wrong, it does make me reluctant to contact them again.

1. Yes you will get a "failed" indication if you are in a poor coverage area or the network is busy.
2. Yes the UserID (TCRESDC5RFDX@W3.MYCINGULAR.COM) and the Password (ZJULDAGEN98810) for the data account are in caps.
Please make sure:
1. Cingular told you they manually added you to the WAP table. To answer your question, if you are not in the WAP table you will see a screen that asks for userid and password. Filling this in does not solve the problem. However, it appears as though you aren't even getting that far in the process of connecting to the server.
2. Have you created your "mycingular" account on the Web. You should have been given a username and password when you signed up for Wireless Internet or Wireless Internet Express. If not, I believe you can do this on the Cingular web site (http://www.cingular.com)
3. Go to an area that shows 5 bars on the T68 and give it a try
Please report back.

Glad I don't use them

I have never had any problems with Cingular. They just have this stupid policy that the WAP/GPRS settings are some state security secret or something. And, it really isn't a problem. Everytime they change, someone posts the new information.

I don't know much about Cingular In California ....but Voicestream has a contract with them to use GSM over there....but in the coverage map of Voicestream..it shows that ISTREAM (internet service "wap/GPRS") is not available in California....I have no idea why.....may be there is not internet service at all over there....again..I am not sure.....
Thanx.

If you get "failed" every time it is typically the result of the service being busy or unavailable. Do you get any other messages before this one, like "loading"? If not it is a connection issue not related to your phone settings. Keep in mind, you need a decent signal for WAP/GPRS to work - a bit better than for voice communications. I know that Cingular was re-configuring their servers over the weekend that created some problems on Saturday.

calling Cingular Support = Calling my grandmother and asking her about WAP.
They will support T68i within 2-3 months. If you can get At&T M life service go with it. Unfort. it's not available in California. Altough I was able to set up WAP with cingular I know it's a little confusing but just pay attention to the directions posted on the website

Who wants a locked phone? There are quite literally thousands of T39 and T68 phones being used on the Cingular network. All "unsupported" and working quite well. GPRS and all.

I have been quite successful using my T39m and T68m on Cingular. For starters, I do not place my Wireless Window user name and password into the WAP Settings of the phone. There have in fact been some challenges with Cingulars WAP Gateway lately. Rumor is they're changing it out for another vendor. I was able to get WAP added to my service by indicating I had a Motorola phone, and then everything worked fine.
