Take a look at my post
here, in fact the third time I've replied to separate posts with this advice, and see how you get on. I too suffered from the problems described here, but so far have been running well.
Cheers,
Steven.

I've had two work through sessions with SE support....nothing....it's escalated now and a "Specialist" is supposed to call me back...
So far the support guy refused to entertain the notion that it is a cable malfunction...he says something is blocking the COM port. I have tried it on dozens of COM ports (!)
For 6 months this used to work just fine! I am flummoxed!

Try to deactivate any software Firewall.
I can't synchronize or see my phone until I deactivate my personal firewall.

I don't use a firewall...and as I said it has been working fine for 6 months...just stopped connecting....I have been through every single usual trouble shooting method, on my own and with SE support.

Hi joolsca,
I have read this thread and I presume that you got the same problem it happened to me.
Internally in your cradle the electronic connections are broken. I opened my cradle and saw it ( very sad actually ), since then I am using the IR, tillmy cradle come back.
cheers,
