this is what i have read, but i hope its a lie...

I have 2 T610s and have zero dust. My T68i didn't get any dust and in fact I cannot think of any phone that ever got dust. It probably is down to where you keep your phone. I use a leather belt case myself.
In regards to if this makes the phone more short lived... I doubt many of us here keep phones until they die... I am always selling mine and getting the next!

yes... but the alu case and the display is scratched up pretty much...
