> Orange and faulty phones!
Bookmark topic
Mwright,
have you ever witnessed the phone ringing, without making a noise? I mean actually seeing the problem?

Oh yes!
I have watched the caller id appear and the soft keys change and then go to missed call!
The problem is real - Orange just say that exchanging the phone won't fix it - therefore they won't do it!!

There's probably some obvious reason why the following won't help you, which I have overlooked. However, its always worked for when my phones have begun to look like they are developing a fault:
1. Contact Orange Services by phone (not the shop you bought it at).
2. Explain your phone has a fault... You have noticed it is droping calls + the signal bar continually fluctuates between full strength and no bars at all every few seconds.
3. State that the problem is intermitent and that it has been going on for a few days now.
4. When asked if you have access to another similar phone (which they will do) in order to insert your sim card, tell them you have tried this and the problem does not occur when you take out the sim and put it in another phone (this, therefore, ensures that their fault diagnotic program registers it is the handset that is faulty).
5. Feel comfortable in the knowledge that when they collect your old phone and deliver a new one, because you stated that the problem was intermitent, it won't matter if they can't locate the problem at their end.
I hope this works for you - it certainly has for me on several occassions.

I don't believe it!
I phoned Orange CS again to have another go at them. When I said I had been having problems with the phone, he took a look at my notes and without me saying anything said "Hmmm your phone is faulty isn't it. Here - have a fault code!"
So - I can go and get the phone exchanged now!
Ah well - it depends who you get on the other end of the phone I guess.

I am having the same problem on my T610 the phone vibrates but no ring - you go to 'My sounds' and play any one of the sounds and....nothing. Also no alerts when a TXT arrives. The phone works everywhere else but as a primary function of a phone is to alert the user when a call is incoming the phone is not 'fit for purpose' as defined by the Sale of Goods act 1979 (as amended), and the Directive 1999/44/EC via the 'Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002' if the phone was supplied after 31 March 2003 it is up to the supplier to prove that the fault was not there at supply.
Therefore if the solution is a firmware upgrade then the fault WAS there at supply so you are entitled to either repair, replacement or refund.
I am trying to get T-Mobile to supply a replacement before I ship the old one back (they should collect/return package) so that I can transfer all my data to the new phone.
On a follow-on, it is the Supplier not the manufacturer who is responsible for repair or replacement etc not the manufacturer - the manufacturers warranty is in addition to you statutory rights under the Act.
Tell your supplier something like the above and it should work. Above all be polite, but firm (forgive the pun) when trying to get Orange/T-mobile/A.N.Other to cough up what they should.
I will keep you informed!

FInally got my phone exchanged after waiting in the shop for an hour while the poor manager tried to convince Orange CS (or whoever they talk to) to exchange it post 28 days. THis despite my account being notepadded to that effect!
Anyway - bright shiny 03W33 phone with R1L firmware sat charging waiting for activation right now!
Success at last!!!

AS a delayed follow-up it turns out that the phone was supplied by 'Ace Contact Limited' who, in this case, couldn't organise a 'p*ss-up in a brewery'.
After no help from either T-mobile or 'Ace Contact' I rejected the phone as unfit. Surprise, surprise a loan phone will be waiting at their local shop (Meadowhall).
Marvellous thought I, picked up the loan phone .... A Motorola T720...no connectivity whatsoever! Bye Bye my data!
They eventally sent the phone off ... to a company that went bust!
The phone has been gone 2 weeks and looks like it may turn up in a week or so.
Needless to say I cancelled my contract with T-Mobile. and intend to get my expenses back in the courts. (when I've got my phone back of course). When cancelling the contract the T-Mobile rep confrimed that she also had had problems when dealing with Ace Contact.
Be warned IMHO Ace contact bury themselves under loads and loads of T-Mobile logos etc. and it is not immediatlely obvious who you are actually getting your phone from.
