I use WinVNC version 3.3.7 which I downloaded from
http://www.realvnc.com. Just install it and start up the VNC server on your machine.
You can set it to run the VNC server as a Windows service (so it is always running, even before you log on), but play with that later.
Then fix your registry setting as in my previous post. This information came from
http://www.realvnc.com/winvnc.html which gives you lots of instructions. I know nothing more about VNC than I read on that page.
Your computer needs an IP address. Mine is on a LAN, so it has one anyway. I guess you must have a network card, or maybe Windows XP will use automatic private IP addressing (APIPA) to make up an address for you when it starts up. Either way, you need to know your IP address. Once you've got VNC server up and running, if you point your mouse at the VNC icon in the system tray, it will tell you your IP address(es).
Then it's just a matter of installing a VNC client on the P900. I have two VNC clients, both of which were downloaded from my-symbian.com (just search for VNC). They both work most of the time.
I suggest you ignore bluetooth for now and try to get it working using the cradle first.
Once you got it working reliably using the cradle, try bluetooth. You need to establish the bluetooth connection between PC and P900 before starting VNC.
Good luck.

Yes, you have to create the registry entry. There are more instructions on the guidance page that I linked to before (search for "loopback" on that page).

ok, installed vnc on my xp and created the allowloopback dword value.
opened the properties sheet and entered a code.
then installed vnc viewer on the p800 (hope it works with it too, not just with p900!) and i don't know what to do next.
sorry for asking all the time d;^)
in the vnc viewer v1.1 on p800 what should i fill in , in the fields "host", "screen" and "password"?
and how do i start the connection?
p.s.1: the p800 is in cradle and connected
p.s.2: do i have to be connected to the internet (dialup from my pc)?

The host is the IP address of your PC. The screen is 0 (didn't you put this in your opening post on this topic), and the password is as specified by yourself in the VNC server properties on your PC.
A useful way to make sure your VNC is set up correctly on the PC is to go into Internet Explorer and try to connect to yourself (i.e. loopback). Use the path
http://yourIPaddress:5800/
If this works, the P800 should work too when it's in the cradle.
I also notice that in the list of registry entries you have written out above, you are using the wrong branch of the registry. Do not go down as far as "Default" to create the loopback key. Refer to my previous post.

while waiting for hippo to answer, let's post some of my experience with this thing so maybe other users can also be helped.
i have nothing new about vncviewer. as i said before, it exits when i press ok whatever the settings are.
so, i tried vnc v4.01 on the p800 and:
in the field "host" i entered my ip address followed by the screen number e.g. 195.167.114.20:5900, and
in the field "password" the same password as in the properties sheet of realvnc 3.3.7 for pc.
when i touch "ok" on the screen, the p800:
-brings up a "choose connection" dialog to connect to the internet, when the phone is not connected
-closes the vnc app, when the phone is connected
edit:
ok hippo, it's done
thanx for the help. i'm so happy!

Hi all
I've been trying to get my VNC working over anything other than when it's sitting in the cradle.
I can't get it to work via GPRS or BT
When you say I will need to establish a BT connection first...how do I do this??? I'm using a Belkin BT USB adapter (in case anyone has experience of these)
Anyone help me on this???
Cheers
Wayne

Hi all,
I tried connecting the P900 to my PC using bluetooth just like hippo had written. It works just fine. I am able to view my desktop with vnc on my P900 on the cradle.
But I couldnt get it to work off the cradle!
The problem is that after I establish the connection between the PC and the P900, then I start the vnc viewer on my p900. And everytime I connect it asks me whether I want to connect through GPRS or dial-up. How do I get it to connect through bluetooth?
Could you detail on that hippo?
Or maybe im making some mistake when establishing the connection between the pc and the phone?
Could anyone detail on the establishing part also? That would be very helpful.
Thanks.
