Hi again .. experts ...

before my final decision & run out to the store to get this ..... need to know sometinnn ..

saw many posts, there r some SYNC Probs with MS-Outlook,
the Sync time took quite a while compared to a PPC or PALM,
some of the data Not Sync & some got deleted.
& ......

r these being corrected OR it's still the same .... & what is the latest sw ver that should be/or upgrade in the P800 if i buy it.? (how to check it?)

1 more, if I saved a *.html doc in the xternal memory can can it be view with the P800 browser.?

[snip]

I only use MS Outlook Express (in Win XP Home), and I've just today (doh!) discovered that the Contacts syncs really nicelywith the P800 - I can't comment on any other Outlook (as I have '97 that won't sync).

Sure you can view .HTML, either using 'Internet', the P800's own WWW browser, or using free Opera, supplied with the phone, and which is Java-enabled.

The latest firmware package is R2F. This represents software of the phone, , organizer and CDA. (Generally, just the phone firmware, R2F is referred to, however, this really just relates to the telephony; phone software is organizer I believe...?)

My firmware is R2D (see my siggy). Although the R2F is the latest, I don't feel that it is as stable as the R2D. R1D *will* need an upgrade immediately. Firmware upgrades are FREE in the 1st 12 months, from any service centre, e.g. in the UK, Carphone Warehouse - they have walk-in centres (takes a matter of minutes to hours, depending on how busy they are), or any branch will send it off for you (takes 10-14 days).

You determine the Firmware version by running/selecting APPLICATIONS > View menu > System information...

Hope this helps,

Steven.

I think it's worth mentioning that SonyEricsson release new models in some markets before others.

If 'me2' lives in the SE Asia, then it's a safe bet the P900 will be out b4 year end. UK & Europe is another matter...

Furthermore, while it may be true that the new model may have teething problems at first, there is no doubt it will be a better phone (in terms of features) than the P800 - the OS, camera and screen resolution enhancements alone are worth the wait (and the cost). Incidentally, the P900 will most certainly not cost more the P800 when it came out, though it is only natural that the price of the P800 will be less in comparison by year-end - it's a year older!

I was an early adopter of the P800 (had it since early February of this year), and I'm also a PDA user, so the phone, good as it was, didn't replace my PPC, but it has served me well since. If I was in me2's shoes right now, I wouldn't want to get the P800 now, with a better, slimmer version just around the corner.

That's why I repeat: @ me2 - if you can, wait

@me2

Before buying my P800, I used a Clie NR70 (this has 320*480 resolution!) and Nokia 6310i. BUT when out and about, I only carried the phone as the Clie was too bulky with a phone. The P800 goes everywhere with me. I don't miss the Clie at all. I am not a games person but otherwise I have everything on the P800 I had on the Clie. The main exception is an external keyboard. But on the P800 I use an app called Personal Jotter 2 which speeds-up text entry. I can't see myself going back to a separate phone and PDA. For me the real issue is connectivity. My ideal device would be one with GSM, GPRS, BT, WiFi and GPS.

Hi there,

I suppose finances is the main consideration for you... if you're flush go for the P800 and upgrade later. Personally, I would like to know if the P900 will have a better battery and will take the bigger memory sticks. If the answer to these questions is yes, I'm on board.

Totally agree with Doink, whilst the P900 is almost guaranteed to have better features, I'm not convinced YET that those features merit an upgrade.

IF the P900 has UIQ2.1, a 65,000 screen, better battery and will allow higher memory sticks, then I'll probably upgrade asap. Otherwise I'll let my P800 have a longer life and wait until the P1000(!? )

At this present time the P800 is worth having
Most of the bugs have been ironed out due to software upgrades
Like tranquil said when the P900 finally comes out it will undoubtly have bugs and then it will take a couple of months more for the software upgrades to sort these problems out

also, I was one of the first adopters of the P800 (december 2002)
I hv yet to upgrade my software.. it is still running R1B
and my phone is stable

I hv no good reason to upgrade to R2F

so P900 might hv the exact same stability at first in some of em and instabilities in others
it's all possible
so the bug problem on a early release is not something u shld worry urself too much about

hay,

its easy for us p800 owners to say wait. because we have a p800. you have nothing!

l say by the p800, it will make you happy. and the new model wont do anything more!

but if you wait you might as well wait for the new new one! because that will be a better and different phone! but then again a new one will come out after! so wait for that one!

You're right Zen, personally I don't think the P900 is going to blow us out of the water like the P800 did. Jaws dropped when then was announced, jaws hit the floor when it was released.

When I heard the more realistic rumours (after all, they still are), I wasn't planning my budget or trying to find as many resources on the net to learn more.

People,

No need to argue - the man was asking whether to buy now or wait. This suggests that he is capable of waiting.

No one is suggesting the P900 will render the P800 obsolete, but it will be better.

If I were in the market to buy the current model now, or wait a month or two for the new one, I know I'd rather have the new model when it comes out. If the P900 were said to be coming out Q4 2004, then of course 'me2' shouldn't wait, but it won't be that long.

BTW, I doubt SW issues will be as prominent with the P900, unless SonyEricsson don't read the forums (we know they do), and don't learn from their mistakes - I'm sure they do.
