> P800 - Any good as PDA
Bookmark topic
I'm at the heart of this dilemma now.
I have a T610 and an

iPAQ 3970. They function together brilliantly and both look amazing as a pair.
On the other hand, I have the P800 with a separate line in it than the one in the T610. I've had the P800 since late January and the T610 since May (before that a T68i with the iPAQ) and I still cannot decide which is better to use or which is more efficient. I guess it depends on the use.

As long as you don't want to edit MS Office documents on your "ideal" PDA then you'll find that the P800 can handle everything else as well as Sony Clie (which is the PDA I have experience of). In addition, IMO the P800 has one of the best web browsers in the form of Opera - much better than any Palm s/w I have seen.
Some people moving to the P800 miss Profiles (which I have seen on my Ericsson T39). Is this an issue for you?
Also, the P800 has no ability to support WiFi - is this an issue for you?
(Sorry I know you use a PPC but just trying to give you some data to help your decision making)

Just a note: Please don't consider the SPV as I've owned one and it's a clunky and bug ridden piece of hardware with very little in the way of connectivity options.

Cheers guys for all your advise, first time I have posted anything on the forum. Really helped me make my mind up. Gonna splash out on a P800, I like the idea of combining the the function of a PDA with the handiness of a mobile phone.
The T610 is a great phone and I like it more than I did the T68i, but I think it may be time to appreciate the benefits of the P800 plus I will still have the T610 - perhaps the best of both worlds.
Thanks again

i'd recommend you to go with a real pda (compaq ipaq 5555) and t610.. that's a good combination for mobility..
i also use P800, however, honestly, (imho) P800 is not as successful as a real PDA and also isn't as successful as a normal mobile phone (software problems, size issue, etc..)

I've found my P800 to be a better phone than my T39m and upgraded T68....

@j0be
I think the P800 and T610 are the best of both worlds.

To do what this chap wants (contacts / schedule etc) then PDA's are fast becoming overblown pieces of hardware, especially when you consider you have to carry a phone too.
I've owned a LOT of PDA's and a LOT of phones (mostly

) including some 'hybrid' phones (Sharp MCG-1 Communicator, SPV) and the P800 is so far the best all round piece of hardware I've used. Add the fact it has a camera and it gets even better.

Maybe I'm missing the point, but I don't see what a 'real' PDA offers over and above the P800. Previously I had a Nokia 9210 and 9110 Communicator and was very happy with both. The P800 is even better, aside from the keyboard being a little fiddly - a minor niggle...
So what applications would, for example an IPAQ offer over and above the P800? As I've never owned what is considered a PDA I'd be interested to see what it can do better than the P800. Is it just interface? Size of screen (for keyboard) etc?
I have had a P800 for 5 months and am over the moon with it. It never fails to impress the crap outta someone when I connect to our web server remotely using VNC on the P800 via GPRS...

MS Office documents are a big consideration. I have been seriously thinking of buying a PDA so that I can view\edit Office documents as my work involves quite a bit of that.
There are viewers for the P800, which will allow you to, well view, Office documents on your P800, but as far as I am aware there are no programs to alow you to edit Office documents on the P800. This is really the biggest problem I have with the P800.
At the end of the day, it all boils down to what you will be using your device for. If you simply want a calendar\address book then go for the P800, as it handles this and a lot more well. If you are looking for a computer in your hand then go for a PDA.
