Yes.. maybe if you diverted all incoming ICMP..
But at least in D-Link routers, there´s a lazy mans solution in the setup program that simply ask you if you want your box to respond to ping or not.

Think this will be my next Firewall...

No, seriously...
I am gonna delete EVERYTHING on the hard disk, total clanup, and start all over again.

The virus has not come throug e-mail, it's just lying there on my IP... waiting for me to go on to internet to visiouly attack my birthday present.

I'm so fed up with all these low life brats who play tuff hiding behind a PC somewhere.

@tranquil
If that's the case, you should install a firewall before connecting to the internet for the first time (after you clean out the PC). Good luck

try that before you do anything though.. see which ports on your PC are open.. and if possible.. close em!

By the way, what makes you think there is a virus, and what virus is it? You might be able to kill it without erasing everything.

Simply because everyime I logged on to internet Zone Alarm warned me abot the same IP trying to access my PC. All of a sudden that stopped and things started to go hay wire from there on.

I know it's obvious and I'm sure you'll have done it, but did you try back-tracing the IP address that Zone Alarm told you about?

If you find their ISP you can tell them about the abuse and try to get them cut off. I know it doesn't solve your problem but at least the revenge may be some small consolation.

@Tranquil:
Do you have a static IP address?
I doubt it's a virus, probably spyware or backdoor..or both. You can look through Windows start up programs, see if there is anything fishy there...

Anyhow, good luck
