Yes the blue triangle is the GPRS indicator. The globe only appears when you are surfing WAP. This message was posted from a T610

Yes, it is for GPRS and when you have no signal it shows two perpendicular lines instead. It's pretty stupid for T-Mobile to think we don't need to know if we have GPRS signal or not. I guess they configured their network to have full GPRS coverege so if there's a signal then there's also GPRS, but they don't think about roaming (especially international roaming where GPRS is not available all times).

You do have to have gprs set up on your account on t-mobile to show the blue triangle and I have 2 t-mob T610's both with gprs activated and they can both show the blue triangle.
If the blue triangle is not shown on the screen you can still use gprs as it is only an indicator of the gprs signal

If you dont have the blue triangle when not in wap session, then go to connectivity>data comm and go into preferred service and select gprs and gsm, then sms access can be selected to gprs if you want.
Thats what i did cus i did'nt have it until after these changes

Its good to know if you have gprs before starting a session

There is no GPRS indicator for US T-Mobile branded T610 with firmware R1S. T-Mobile disabled this "feature" for no apparent reason. Perhaps those of you overseas have a different firmware (I'm sure you do), so those solutions do not work on US phones.

As far as I know, the only way to get it back is to get a generic firmware flash. That's it.
