Hacked version code? Explain?
The Div-X codec is made from the bottom...it is just like mp3 and wav...the mp3 is compressed like a zip...and have to unpack (decode) while playing..

On a PC the minimum CPU is 400Mhz to play it properly, I could not play it without awfoul lot of lag and frame drops on my old 300Mhz Pentium II..

The DivX ;-) 3.11 codec was a hacked version of microsoft's mpeg4 codec.
The DivX 4+5 codecs were written from the ground up using the mpeg4 specs as a baseline for it.

Yes...i think it is because of the small resolution...takes less CPU...

Argh.

No, the P800 cannot play divx files. It can play files which are technically similar to divx files. But they are NOT divx.
They are mp4. 2 incarnations, 1 is the packetvideo format, which is what the built-in video player plays and what camcoder plays/records. Camcoder, however, can also play 3gp files, which are pretty much exactly the same. Video files need to have sound in the GSM_AMR format to have audible sound, at least in camcoder anyway.

Now, with that out of the way, while no, it isn't possible to play a divx film, it IS possible to play an mp4 film. You say 128MB isn't big enough...

Don't forget that the P800 resolution is 196*144 (or something similar).
That's probably at least 1/3 of the original resolution of divx files encoded from DVDs.
So theres some saved space.
Secondly, there are some tradeoffs you can make due to watching an entire film on a mobile phone.
For example, sound quality doesn't NEED to be top-notch, and doesn't necessarily need to be stereo either. So space saved there.
As for video quality, the P800 currently can't play anything greater than around 10fps anyway, so once again that's 1/3 of the frames required, and the quality can be turned down quite substantially too.

So you're making a BIG saving on space. So yes, it IS possible to watch films, but:
a) They're gonna be dismal quality
b) You'll probably need the backlight on permanently, which means not only a drain from the video side, but also audio and the backlight. BIG DRAIN!
c) There is going to be indeterminable waits for encoding the film from divx to mp4.

So again, possible...but barely worth it.

Good for showing off though!
