This is why Palm would like SE on its side - it needs the cell phone technology of SE but SE does not need Palm as it has Symbian!

I don't think palm needed
because of their cellphone technology. It is reported that the
reason they bought handspring is because of the
Treo 600. Especially now that Palm is merely waiting for shareholders' approval for the spin-off of PalmSource (which will only deal with palmOS development and licensing) as a separate company, Palm (thru Palm Solutions Group - the handhelds division) will be taking care of the hardware stuff (and whatever technology they got from the Handspring acquisition). Therefore, PalmSource as a separate company, can approach any mobile phone manufacturer.

1. The reviewer does not know about the Symbian driver for the Pocketop keyboard
2. I suspect office apps for UIQ will out soon (rumours at
http://www.my-symbian.com). Agendus has already ported to UIQ and other Palm developers will do the same. Why, because P800 has sold 1 million in a year. More than most Palm models.
3. Both reviews you referred to mention the Treo's low res.
4. None of the reviews mention lack of BT which for me is a real downside. Using a BT headset with a mobile phone is the only way to really use a smartphone. It might have been too complicated for poor Handspring!
5. And finally Opera is much better than any Palm based browser.
It took Handspring a year to produce the Treo - they had to build-up a cellphone team. You can't compare this to SE's capabilities and distribution.
No, Palm OS has no future without a large cellphone company. Palm itself cannot compete with cellphone companies - too little money.
