There is plenty of stuff in the larger P900 rom that has nothing to do with UIQ 2.1, and as such it would be possible to have an optimized UIQ 2.1 in the P800.
Yeah, but do you really expect

to put all that effort and money into optimising UIQ 2.1 for the soon to be "obsolete" P800?? (obsolete in the sense that

won't be selling it and therefore making money out of it anymore)

Check this offical SE document;

Future roadmap
Since the P800 is an open environment, new solutions
will continually be developed by both Sony
Ericsson and third parties. In most cases, such new
solutions will work on the existing product range,
even when successors to the P800 have been
shipped.
Our internal roadmap is not presented publicly. As
a general direction, further solutions can be
expected in these areas:
• Corporate messaging and groupware access
• Security
• Java
• Device management and user provisioning
• Developer tools
This clearly says that you
can expect upgrades in many keys areas, and that
most of these will be available even after the P800 has been superceed.
Now, I think SE are about to do a big U turn here, but if they do then then they cheated anyone who took them on there word after reading this document.

@moamoa
That link you provided is for "Enterprise usage" and is not relevant for the average home user. The areas covered by the five bullet points do not cover the new UIQ. The document talks about features such as email access and is intended to reassure companies that if they implement a communications solution with P900s then it will also work with P800s.
It does not mean that a home P800 user will get the more pretty UIQ from the P900.
Anyway, who absolutely "needs" UIQ 2.1?? It will be nice to have, but it is certainly not critical to use the P800.

Unfortunately I haven't got a login for that forum so I can't see your message (and I can't register because it doesn't accept hotmail email addresses).

I am an enterprise user, and the doc talks about Java and Security. Where are the Java and Security improvments?
2.1 has Java MIDP 2.0 and VPN which are very relavent for enterprise usage!

Well that is a more compelling reason for

to provide UIQ2.1 for the P800. Most other people here only want it because it is more pretty and has more things to play with.

I bought & used a P800 for 10 months, i got everything i expected SE have developed a newer version which you can take or leave.
I was one of the people who benefited from the T68m _T68i upgrade, that was good of SE, but to expect it every time is aa bit much, anyway, after a while the feel of the P800 becomes dated i want a P800 with the "Feel" of the old T68m i think the P900 may fit that bill.
Look at Ipaq PDA's a new version every 4 months now for about 4 years.

The petition gets a mention on the
Infosync news site. The number of people who have signed it is now nearing 3,000 people.
