Hi U guys I have some (hopefully) new ideas to the Pro - Problem.
Soooo....
I understood, that the Stick has 6 Contacts, the first two are used for serial, slow and good old mode, the 4 others are used for new highspeed and Pro function.
I read, that the Pro-Stick has two modes: the serial and the (new) parallel mode.
Somehow, the stick can switch from one mode to the other.
So my question is:
How does that switching work ? Is it just a software problem ? And when switched,
does the stick stay in that mode until switched back again or is it switched each time you restart your device ? I mean, is there any device, using that serial mode of the pros ??? For what they implemented that switching function ìf there is no such device ???
So I have several suggestions:
1) To deactivate the 4 parallel contacts somehow (f.e. by covering them with very thin pvc ??)
2) Maybe the stick can be opened and one or more connections in the controller have to be cutted or made ??
3) If there is any device that uses the Pros in serial mode, the stick could be formatted in them and such a stick must be in serial mode, what means it woud be usable for P800 ???
So what do you think ???
Maybe we can get that finally ???

So no chance of a 512MB duo working then huh? he he
Sorry couldnt resist!!! lol
Perhaps SE have something in the pipeline specifically for the P900 in terms of memory...such as a compressible 256/512MB card? Just a suggestion...not speculation.

to be honest, just because it says "up to 128Mb" in the white paper doesn't mean that the p800 can't do more.
to me, it could also mean that at the time they were writing the white paper, there were no higher-capacity memory sticks available.
i've seen this a number of times, when a mainboard supported only X megabyte ram because there were no higher rams available.
or cpus. up to 700Mhz, but then 800 and 900mhz chips were released and worked just fine on the board.
but, it appears to be a hardware issue or something.
i don't understand the memorystick-thing. it's so weird. pro, super pro, duo, duo super duper pro mega. wtf?

The thing is Sony have just done this again with the P900 its not a case of there was nothing higher out because there is 1GB duo pro. why not give it that sort of power instead of just 128mb again?
they should of just used SD, MMC from the start. i think sony did/doing a bad thing with there duo's the only product i hate from sony is there duo's.
anyway expansys are selling a 256mb card (not a duo) but it use's there back cover exspantion thingy, and it says very clearly "A 256MB memory stick split into 2 x 128MB Memory banks" so if you want anything higher then 128MB then you gonna have to settle with 2X 128mb in one card ... its better then nothing.
(heres a link to the card)
