"I cant really find anything at SE that I would like to buy to replace my T310/T610/P800"

Replace T610! But it's just 6 months old... and NOt for everyone... in the FIRST countries that it appeared, only.

Also, they have released the same phone but clamshell (perfect to do this, as many people likes-dislikes clamshells), they are about to release a new version with some hardware improvements (T630 TFD screen) and different style. Also there are rumours about the T650 (only rumurs, but the TFT version of the T610 also was a rumour), which maybe will have significant improvements...

also... P900 is the replacement for the P800. If it's not enough for you, as said, NOTHING will be, because it's the most advanced phone nowadays...

So... what do you want? Only criticise SE? I am not SE-fan, the one I have is my first SE phone, but AT TEH MOMENT, I think SE's are the best phones... I don't care if they release one new model each month or each year...

i just want to say that you have to remember, before reading this, i HATE nokia and i LOVE se

but it is somehow not that right what they are doing
yes the z600 is a great phone > but it is too thick (and not that innovativ concerning design)
T610 > nothing to say about that, a great phone
but T630 > yes its just an upgrade but, sony ericsson speaks about it as an successor of the T610 (video interview @ news.com) nokia has brought up better models than that - i'm missing video recording, a better design
p900 > i'm happy that they upgraded the p800 but i miss something like a SX1 or an 6600
also design is something i'm not really happy at the moment, i would prefere a Z600 in the body of a z200 or even better ... something like a 7200 (i know that many of you hate the design)
T630 > just a leap back wards - there would be so many ways to make it look cool > but thats not the way to do it - i like the idea of the back of the phone ... but not with such a cam

I think I allready answered your question before. The point is not replacing my T610 so much, when the T610 came out 6months ago it was top of the line and I still like it.

This thread is not about me replacing my phones - this thread is about comparing the market today - comparative phones to phone as if I were to buy a phone today. And yes the P900 is the best phone - I know that, but thats a crap argument, it has nothing to with me not being satisfied with the P900, but with the fact that when you compare models in the same segment and pricerange from brand to brand, like v500 and e700 to z600, SE is lacking weather you like it or not. You cant just compare P900 to every phone regardles of segment or price and from that state that SE has the best phones portfolie - that makes no sence.

Im not attacking SE or anyone - and I am an adult trying to have a nice debate about todays market - so pleace people - keep this at an unbiased level and give me some valid arguments, spare me the adulescense "SE rox - the rest sux" kind of arguments - they really are useless.

"v500: 5mb memory, 176x220 TFT screen, 640x480, mp3 and wave ringtones, quadband, at 50$ less than the z600
e700: 6mb memory bla bla bla
etc.
etc."

Yes... I looked at that phones when (before summer) I was abou to buy one. The hardware is impressive but the software "inside" is VERY poor: adressbook, calendar, SYNCHRONIZATION,... and many of them have bad interface for transferring files to/from the PC, semi-operatice IrDa's... etc...

Also... almost all these phones you mention ara quite big (I may say "thick"), and that ones are uncomfortable to "wear".

So, technology has to be useful and pleasant: it's nonsense for me to have a phone that does everything but you have to carry in a bag, or disturbs you. Or having a phone that has 5Mb memory and is not capable of storing some phone numbers and synchronize it with outlook seamlessly.

5Mb... TFT screen, MP3 ... are optional if the basic things fail.

oh so you looked at that phone before summer and found the software in the phone and the synchronisation to be not so good did you ? hmm - forgive me but thats kinda odd since the phone is only just being released now - and from what I hear the software are very improved and it does have bluetooth Perhaps your are mistaken and think of another phone ?

Otherwise I agree totally that functionality is of utmost importance - naturally basic functions must be in order before anything else - otherwise specs dont really get into account.

Spawn, that's where you've got it wrong... that's why Nokia & SE are 2 totally different companies..

Nokia thrives off their 3xxx series, and has their higher end phones just for show...

SE on the other hand makes most of their money from high end phones and just has the lower end phones just to fill market demand (although they are TRYING to reverse this orientation)

Ericsson (now SE) has always been elitist. They've always catered to the High-Business-end (not even middle management!!! ) and luxury-class phone market. In case you haven't noticed the older Ericsson trend... NONE of their phones had any "fun" features. It was always data oriented... and it was always serious looking.

The old A-series was Ericsson's attempt at "fun" hahahaha... my apologies but that was really pathetic!!! hahahahahaa!!!

SE still has a lot to learn about fun... IF they wanna capture the youth/yuppie crowd. CAR-100 and the new Game Controller are a start... but seem to be designed around the Japanese youth market.

I'm noticing better designs though no more F-UGLY Baby Blue... the Z600 carries more elegant colors...and the Z200 seems more well-thought out. Although there's still a lot of room for improvement... SE seems to be adapting pretty fast... I've seen very big leaps from one generation of SE phones to the next. The first wave was just rebranded Ericsson phones... the next was the P800, and new T300 (it may be a T68i but it was targetted at the youth) ... then the T610 which sported a more distict SE look... and now the current line-up is 'technically' the first ALL line-up... the T610, T630, Z200, Z600, P900 ... this, ladies and gents is the first time SE has actually gotten original phones out on the market (the P800 is a long over-due Ericsson Communicator so that doesn't count quite yet)

Now, considering that this is SE's first real line-up (seems to me that right now, this is the first time SE has finally stabilized as ONE company... not Ericsson, not Sony... but SonyEricsson... they've finally decided on their own identity) their line-up isn't half bad. They still are pretty much the king of the hill when it comes to features (I'm talking about NEW technology... not the rehashed crap Nokia dishes out)

And considering the rocky start SE had after the merger... I'd say they're doing pretty well for a company that had to redefine their identity... risk losing loyal Ericsson customers... stabilizing management and employees ... and gunning for profit!!! I know they are still groping in the dark for some sort of stable ground... I hope they've found it

I'm excited to see how things will turn out next year!!! I'd love to see what comes after the P900!!! The promise of the T650 doesn't really excite me though... not enough features... If they could shrink the P900 to the size of the T610... THAT would be amazing!!! (complete with touchscreen that spans the length of the phone)

And a P900 that's FLATTER (1/2" would be enough to make me happy) and a full 240 pixel width... or better yet, a full 640x480 hi-density, transreflective screen like the one on the Toshiba e800PPC.. 3G backwards compatible with GPRS (user adjustable time slots) and GSM... Nightshot for video... and Memorystick Pro (or something that allows larger memory)

That's just my 2 cents...

Ok. I have not yet checked these concrete phones. I think I checked V600 (V500 had to be a very similar one with minor changes).

What I meant to be was that Motorola and Samsung, till now (maybe these new models are different) had very poor interface and utilities and, for me, that's nontrivial. In the thread you mentioned only says that the UI has been imnproved, but no one says nothing about it.

I want a nice phone (colors, poly-tones, etc...) but USEFUL. I don't doubt the screen, polys and java of the Samsung, Motorolas, is the best, and maybe this suits someone (sure that many people only needs this), but not me.

They are still much thicker than T610 (for example).

I don't think technology is teh most important. A big screen is useless if you don't almost play, or 5Mb are useless if you don't nedd them. If, for instance, you need BT and the phone doesn't have (or the connectivity is poor). That happened to me with V600 (I think)

What I'm trying to say is, and maybe you have noticed it in many posts, that different needings need different phones, and that HARDWARE is not all the things a phone has. It's VERY important what's inside. At least, and above all, for me...

Also, these phones are out 6 months after The T610. maybe in the next 6 months SE will. Next time I buy a phone I will look for all the models. If SE has (to my opinion) the best, I will boy it, and I will buy another brand if they have the best. I don't use a brand, I use a phone.

I say.
