it can't be that hard for the memory stick duo to compete with SD cards.
i mean, they're similar in size, so if 512mb SD is possible, where is the problem? can't they just pop that same memory chip into a memory stick?

hmm ... anyone handy with a soldering iron?

ps: why are you all so afraid of new posts? yes, the topic has been discussed, but why do you fear the number of posts?

@AC

Are the MS Duos subject to customs duties in India? I dun think they are... but I am not sure. Do the customs go thru' absolutely everything? maybe you can request a vendor to rip out the packaging and just send the duo warpped in some folded paper as if it was a normal letter and then send it you.

Thats how I got the screen protector. But I dont want to take that risk with the Duo. In any case, I did buy a 128mb Duo from a guy who got some from Singapore at about 75% higher price

I am in agreement about the need for larger sticks, but how much data do we really need to carry with us?
When will you listen to 100 MP3's or have time during a working day to watch a full film? If people want all that storage just carry a laptop with you

I mean there are two kinds of people out there with a P800/900:

1) The "Pasties"

A pastie is a person old in mind, still hangingī around in the past.
He is absolutely happy with the P800 mainly as a phone. He still sees an old, huge, gray crap box called Desktop as a great thing, and even a P1-133MX on 32MB Ram has its worth for him. His view recognizes the P800 as a handy, and thatīs it. He will never understand, how it is even possible, that a person wants more than 128MB on a stick for that handy. Heīs really old-minded, no matter whatīs his age.
He doesnīt understand, what the P800 or any smartphone is and he has no intention to use the smartphone features. Very progressive pasties have a Notebook or even a PDA which they mainly use for business purposes, if.

2) A "Futie"

Thatīs a person with a realistic and open minded point of view. He is in touch with present or even more with the future. He feels what a
person wants in some years. He is full of creativity and can obviously see all the possibilities of the P800. And, what is more important, he wants and enjoys using these features. His heart beats mainly for high-tech, the smaller and the more multifunctional it is, the better.
He loves his P800 really and wants to use it in many ways, depending on what he specialized on. He has always the feeling: "Why the hell the storage is so damned small ????" He sees people hanging around with 60GB ITunes, storing all their mp3s on it easily and the ask themselves "What the hell can I do with 128MB ?" They think, itīs just as you create a Porsche with a tank of 5 liter gas in it. So drive along, after 2 minutes stop, get out and fill the tank again, then drive some minutes, stop, fill, and so on. What means: Listen to some mp3s, change Stick, look up the wikipedia, change stick, navigate in the city, change the stick, read some Ebooks.....Then you need a special case for all that sticks, otherwise youīll loose them all. And you have to use handybase to look up what is in which stick.

So you guy, what are YOU now ?
You are whining about all those people whining about the lack of storage ?
Or are you just whining about the lack of storage ?

What a long post, phew! Almost couldn't be bothers reading it. There is some truth in what you say and I do use my P800/900 to their full capacity in terms of memory and features, for both business and personal use.
I of course want a bigger memory stick than 128 MB, but I think we have to be realistic. SE might upgrade the P900s capacity assuming that it isn't a hardware issue, but I don't see much coming in the way of an upgrade for the P800.
These issues of course raise the question 'how much memory is enough?@ to which the answer of course must be, "no amount is ever enough!'. People will always want more memory. If SE had a 100 GB stick out that the P800/900 could handle people would still moan that they needed more.
Everyone's requirements are different, some people are perfectly happy with a 16 MB stick whilst others cram as much as they can onto a 128 MB stick.
The bottom line of the argument is that SE do need to get their arse in gear and release bigger stixks for these products, but deciding on how much to support is a tricky question.

Maybe we should all hit SE with a big "stick" to "Jog" their "memory" and wake them up.
If we "dial" in to the reality of this situation and march up to Sony Ericsson's "magicgate", they are bound to let us in, perhaps as a "duo" or a "treo" (ahem)...who knows?
There has to be at least "65,000" ways to get around this issue with the insufficient memory without making all owners feel "blue" while getting a little bit long in the "tooth" awaiting some kind of positive change for the future.
If all else fails, then SE can always get "jacked"!!!
