Go for the upgrade,if u threaten to go to another network they should upgrade you to the t610 for less than £100,i got mine for £30 on upgrade but the price went up again recently.

Can you upgrade on PAYG? I thought that was contract only. From Orange direct you can upgrade to the T610 for free and buy a PAYG for £149.99. Not sure if you can put an older Orange SIM in a new phone as they're starting to lock SIMs to phones now I think. I may be wrong.

@marksurry, All Orange sims work in all Orange phones (as a good rule of thumb).
The "Locking" is only to try to stop you using ANOTHER networks sim card.

You're correct and its not a vicious rumour. Orange have and may still well do lock SIM's to phones. Which basically means no matter what SIM you put in the phone it won't work, only the original SIM will work.

Sorry but that is complete crap. Orange only have a network lock. The samsung a300 'locked' when another orange sim was put in it. But this was a phone security feature. And u can now upgrade on payg. U even get an extra tenner if u do it pronto. Look for the yellow sticker on the box.

It's not complete crap at all. I have seen it about 3 years ago, I remember when trying my Orange SIM in my friends Orange PAYG phone and it gave the same message as when you put a different network SIM in there.
