Well, in that case, the old firmware is better.

I think that the difference is not the firmware but in the quality control of the CMOS sensors in the phones. You can get very diferent quality from a cmos chip. To be honest I reckon that the quality on both pfhones is crap. But that is cmos for you.

Why I believe its firmware, cause the picture takes less space, and are worse quality.. and that is a easy change for them to do in firmware. By saving jpeg with more compression you loose quality and gain space!!

And I think that this is waht they have done, considering that they got alot of complaints on pictures taking alot of space (RAW format + JPEG) and also that they only have 2MB...

But I want good pictures!!! I dont care about how big they are!!

The t610 does not work with RAW format so it has nothing to do with raw data taking space up. Could be that in the new firmware has higher comrression rate, i.e. lower quality, but the images look te same

The pictures are smaller because they are stored using a different format (well, they've done something different). However, if you copy the picture away from the phone, and then back again, it will take up much more space (pretty much the same ammount of space as the older firmware). For that reason, I don't think the quality of the JPEG compression has been decreased.

It seems to me (...and this is pure guesswork) that in the new firmware, they have tried to fix the high contrast issues, and ended up decreasing the overall sharpness. The white-balance metering seems to have been optimized more for daylight then anything else, as well.

As for the blue noise - it's a standard side effect of high ISO speeds (which allows to take pictures in lower light conditions, but increases the ammount of noise). I don't know if the ISO speed is controlled by the firmware (probably is to some extent), but it would definetly explain the higher noise ratio in the new firmware, since the pictures have also become lighter (in my experience anyway...)

[edit]
The ISO speed effect on the ammount of noise and lightness of the picture became very apparent to me when I was taking some pictures at night with my Canon Powershot S45 (which supports ISOs from 50 to 400). If I used ISO 50, the picture was practically pitch black (but very noise free ). If I used ISO 400, the picture became visible, and actually very much brighter, but the noise became quite apparent.
