@701,
Orange lock their handsets to the Orange network. All their phones, well all the phones I've had off them, will only take Orange SIM cards.

I find MOST "contract" handsets you can buy on Voda & o2 are not locked (but, xda was always locked to o2), all Orange phones are locked, (but a small number of "last stock" T68m's were sold on Orange through CPW a while ago unlocked).
So what can we learn from the confusion ?
You take your sim with you & TRY it before you buy it !!!!! if your ordering online then TELL the salesperson that it will be returned if it is locked, no decent salesperson could possibly have a problem letting you find this out as many users now have multiple sims.

I can get handsets unlocked for as little as £5 but nobody can do my P9's yet.

I had my T610 firmware upgraded at a service centre on Monday and they were not able to unlock my phone (locked to Vodafone).
I'm still contemplating parting with a tenner by going to one this market stalls that you get in every town/village centre that sells mobile accessories etc.
What do you guys think: by doing so, does it void my warranty?

@uncle bob, well you could just deny knowing anything about it, practice by eating things from someones fridge then when they ask about it, say you didn't do it

@pachy: You remind me of my parents when I was still a teenager smoking in secret.
What would happen is that they would walk unexpectantly into my room accusing me of smoking:
"You've been smoking havent you?!"
"Who me? Never, I Dont smoke... Thats disgusting!"
Notwithstanding the fact that this big smoke cloud hangs in my room and everything reeks of smoke...

The fact remains that u can say u dont know what locking/unlocking means and that u want ur phone to work again. They can see that has been unlocked but they cant prove u did it. Thats when ur mobile broke down and u have a warranty.
