Orange is NOT supported through the online auto-updater. PERIOD!!!
The reason stems from the CDA number that it uses as a verification check... The primary purpose of a CDA is to show that the phone has the capability to be used with multiple language packs.. Moreover the number identify the region and status (OEM/Contract Carrier Modified) of the phone.. With that said, all Orange P900 owners will have a CDA different from that of members that purchased sim-free/unlocked phones (OEMs). So don't waste your time trying to update your firmware if you purchased your phone directly from a carrier (ie Orange)... That phone has been modified and the online updater can NOT update it with the current firmware as listed below in my pic...

@Rossy
Pay attention to what Bigfeat has to say and follow what I did last night in the thread "just updated my p900 fw" I tried it and although I got past the message that I already had the latest firmware by trying to con the software with a generic CDA number, it still didn't work and won't as BigFeat explains.
But if someone comes up with an answer, which I doubt, certainly in the near future, then I'm interested.
At the end of the day as my old dad used to say "There is no such word as can't".... there is, but you know what he meant!

Just an idea but how about useing a normal p900
to start the update and then swap it over with the orange
one when its downloading the software.
Anouther thing whats the point of haveing a
manuel update option when it checks the software
thats allready on the phone anyway?
Mines going in for a reflash on friday, but I will
miss the ornge email wizerd that was quite usefull.

@T1000
I think the program states clearly what the purpose of Manual and Auto update is... I think by the time one went throught the "Manual Update (recommended)" they would have known that this wouldn't work for them.. For example, the part where Orange users read "you already have the most recent update"... I'm sure every Orange users got that message after going through the Manual section.. If one didn't then they didn't take the advice SE placed on that initial page..
However, it seems that a lot of Orange users couldn't understand the simple explanation clearly written in that step... In laments terms it was to save your butts from wasting your times.. SE actually had the word "recommended" in brackets... Lesson learned. Read instructions carefully as your questions and concerns would more like have already been answered in the text..

@bigliar
sorry, bigfoot.!!
you are absolutely wrong about orange fm not being able to update through the online updater.
Ive done mine twice(just to make sure it wasnt a fluke!!) and it worked effortlessly by using the automatic method.

Ok... Let us see a screenshot of that "phone" revision #... Such as I I posted of my pic... Orange CDA versions are all similar.. By the way, you are literally the only person out of 3 major SE forums that have claimed to flash an untampered (not previously flashed by a dealer) Orange P900... So you are alone and you have the burden to prove that...
BTW: There's a reason why several owners are trying to figure out a way to "hack" the cda text file... However, I'm guessing you don't understand why...

You can go throught the update process and carry on even thou u get the message "you already have the latest version"
Im on orange and did the update. Made no difference. My numbers are'nt the same as the screen shots above this post. So your definite answer at the moment is no. But i with you could. Hopefully there will be a way. And when that is let all us poor orange users know !!!

Ok, so this seems to be the real deal.
1. The firmware updates DO include the customised elements (bad design). Therefore a service provider specifc firmware update needs to include the startup/shutdown screens and any other customisations done. So the generic firmware release will always be out first and then the provider in conjunction with SE will have to build, test and certify subsequent revisions.
2. You can update Orange firmware. It WILL reflash the firmware using the online tool, but there won't be any difference because the new flashed firmware is the same as the one that is already on the phone! Nevertheless it shows that it could be updated in the future.
As for hacking. Swapping the phones over is an interesting idea. Use auto update (forget manual) with a generic phone. After it switches the phone on and checks the firmware, take off the generic phone and replace it with the Orange one. It might work! But then, you will need to find a generic phone first!
