I love my P900 (& P800 before) but having also owned an XDA2 for a while the picture & video quality of the XDA2 is much better and the camera in the XDA2 still has the size limitations of being built into a thin PDA device.
Yes, you would never take 'serious' photos with a 640x480 camera but the clarity is much better on the XDA2.
Also the Video on the P900 is not full 320x204 but it is the full 320x240 on the XDA2 with the whole screen being the view finder.
Obviously the P900 has many more advantages and the Picture/Video issue was not of major concern to me but do wish the P900 could produce the same quality as the XDA2.
Biggest disappointment for me with P900 was the Video playback of files is also crap. Only shows full screen as a stretched image, not a fully encoded 320x204 while the XDA2 handles 320x240 with no problems at DVD quality visuals & Dolby quality sound. Without doubt the XDA2 is a multimedia powerhouse.

Couldn't agree more.
The camera is sufficient for the job it's designed to do. If you find other phones have MUCH MUCH better cams and this is a very major point to you, maybe you should go and get one of these other phones as it will suit your needs slightly better.
Personally, I don't find other brands phone cams are THAT much better anyway. So I fail to see the reason for all your excitement.

I'm obviously comparing the p900's camera to other cameraphones... Okay I'll stop muttering about how bad the p900's camera is compared to other phones, but I'll give you some sample shots and links... Anyway, I think i'll be getting a p900 too.. But I want to know how fast or slow the transfer rate when transferring files from pc to p900 compared to p800.. Because i have a pocket pc, and it is a lot faster than the p800.. and is the pc suite that comes with the p900 compatible with windows 98? Many thanks

Taken from p900 and p800; same time, same position ( I have no idea what went wrong )
I cant seem to post the other photos... here's the links

Im shure the XDA2 has a lot of better featues
but look at the size of the thing.
Youll look silly useing it as a phone.
if size dosent matter why not just buy a laptop?

The transfer rate is still pretty slow. Someone here at Esato told me that the cable connection is really serial and not USB.
I used to have a Clie and the USB transfer rate is several times faster.
I'm kinda disappointed at my P900 because of this. I have a 128mb duo and i transfer a lot of data that's taking so long!!!
....but i still love my P900!

guys don't kid yourself the camera is not up to standard..if a GX-22 and e715 both shoot better quality pics... then how can the p900 pics be decent...
i use a 6600 and when i saw my bro's e715 took better pics and the gx-22 kick my phones ass in pics... it's just upsetting... becasue i believe these all-in-one devices... should be better..especailly from sony since the hefty price tag and the fact that they're "sony" if it carries the name it should carry the quality

Well i think it's vious that you have different settings on your p800&p900 reset to default and you will see that they are the same.....

I must agree with the XDA2 statement, both the still and video camera function is impressive... its just a shame that it couldn't be a little smaller, although this would be all but physically impossible if it is to support a screen of that size...
For those who value a camera function over other more intersting features, just don't get the P900 as you are not going to be happy (since there are better cameras around, but are there better overall convergence devices?)... I find it ironic that those who despise the camera so much still get or even consider the phone... obviously it doesn't mean that much after all... and so it shouldn't, the p900 is a great thing as a complete device, and has certainly won me over...

I cannot judge about the photo shooting and video recording capabilities of the XDA 2 since I havenīt had this device in my hands yet but Iīm really surprised how some people here brag about the camera quality of the 6600.
Iīve seen some pictures made with the device and Iīve seen video clips taken with it and please someone tell me what is so good about it. Ok, the P900 photo quality is not optimal at this point due to the fact that photos are relatively dark which might be a firmware issue cause the camera itself shouldnīt be anything different from the P800, but the photos taken with 6600 look as washed up and blurred like they already looked with the 3650 and 7650.
The video clips are much brighter than the oneīs taken with the P900 but in fact they are smaller in dimensions and they look blurred and washed up like the photos. Also donīt forget that the P900 is capable of unlimited video recording while 6600 only gives you the shitty 11-15 seconds clips that you are supposed to send via MMS to enrichen your cell phone provider. Ok, you might say that thereīs ETI camcorder but the quality of those files compelety sucks.
And what video playback concerns. XDA2 might be better but as far as I know XDA2 has a processor two times as fast as the P900 and it has other disadvantages like size. Itīs rather a fully fledged Pocket PC device than a smartphone. But P900 video quality is ok. I put 320x240 clips with 256kb/s and 20 frames per seconds in it and when thereīs enough system memory free they run relatively smoothly.
