Ah, yes! good point...
I forgot that GPRS gives faster downloads than 'standard wap', so my download time predictions probably aren't that accurate! Oooops...
I suppose that it all depends on exactly how much downloading you intend doing. If you're playing with a new phone (like I always do!!) then it might be an idea to use GPRS at least for a couple of months since your gonna be downloading LOADS of stuff and in the long run it will probably work out cheaper than standard wap.
EDIT: Yeah, sounds like your provider is vodaphone. You should be able to dial a short number, given in your phone's manual or other documentation to contact their customer services.

Not sure without seeing it lol
According to the manual it could mean that:
1. You're ringing someone up
2. You have a 'task' set up
3. You have 'call barring' enabled
Do you mean the little world symbol when you're on wap? this also indicates that a GPRS session is in progress.

'standard (gsm) wap speed' is supposed to be 9k per second but it depends on your network provider. Since it uses the same technology as that used to transmit phone calls, it can drop considerably during busy times, when loads of people are using their phones at the same time.
So taking the 9k per second value, a 70k theme should take approx. 8 seconds to download, not including the time spent getting to the wap site, and the time it takes for the download to start (sometimes as long as 20 seconds or so). Unfortunately, wap is rarely this fast. If the connection speed drops to 1k per second, then your download is gonna take 70 seconds, plus 20 seconds (or longer!) connection time, plus 60 seconds (at least!) getting onto the wap site in the first place, = two and a half minutes.
GPRS operates at 15-25k per second and is pretty much unaffected by usage. This means that your downloads go at least twice as fast as on standard wap, but In theory you could download that 70k theme in three seconds, with no more than a minute's worth of getting onto the wapsite and setting up the download.
I think you need to find out exactly how vodaphone charge for GPRS. Do they round any usage up to the nearest megabyte, or do they charge by the kilobyte? If they charge per k, then it might be cheaper than standard wap.

Yup, if you've pressed up on the joystick and you've got the browser up, you're on wap
