Please read through the threads already posted on this forum. I think you would have noticed that there is no 256mb DUOs (non-PRO format) in production at all..
BigFeat, please explain why there are several online retailers in britain expecting a 256MB Duo in december.
There are several retailers, about 5 or so. All of which use a new product code, and most of which say this part will be available around the 10th of december.
Press releases are all fine and dandy, but fact is that online retailers often make the mistake (?) of placing products on their webpage long before the supplier has issued a press release. I think the chances are very, very slim that 5 UK online retailers (yes, curiously all in the UK) have dreamed up a product and all expect it to appear mid-december.
Just keeping the dream alive
BTW, the fact that Sony Ericsson says the p900 will not support is a 256MB Duo is logical. They on the other hand do have to keep their mouths shut until there is a press release.

Is it in dark blue rather than the normal Light blue??
Cuz if it is it is a MS Duo "select"...
Anyway i would like to see whether the p900 does work with it....There ve been lots of threads talkin about it but i don't think they are clear enough.

@WVL
Here is a reason why. I have already seen several vendors list 256mb DUOs in their stock here. What's even weirder is that not all of them have the exact product code. However, all of the ones I have been able to locate have falsely advertised the product description through ignorance or ill intent. I mostly think its due to ignorance as most of these sales reps can't explain the variations in the memory stick market.
This is what I found out. Manufacturers sometimes have more then one product code for one product. The reason for this is because the product may be sold to an industry or commercial retailer. For instance, I had an engineer from Sandisk search for 2 product codes. The results queried the same 256mb PRO DUO on their computer each time. Moreover, more manufacturers are jumping on the 256mb/512mb PRO DUO band wagon. So far I know Sony, Sandisk, and Lexar are selling these sticks. However, they do not have the same product code for the same 'type' of product as it is an internal generated manfucturer code. So as more manufacturers start releasing their versions of the same 'type' of sticks you will get several product codes. However, one thing I do think will keep happening is that vendors will continue to make product description blunders. So as far as press release and all I understand how it works and why employees are told to hush. However, if you can find a 256mb DUO listed anywhere write down that manufacturer product code (as well as the manufacturer name) and post it on this board. The only and true way to trace the correct description for that item is through its manufacturer. If the product code is released then the manufacturer can query that product in its database.
Quick background: Japan started carrying 128mb DUO sticks about 2 months prior to the rest of the world. Japan sold these sticks for about $75USD at the time. Weeks later UK started publishing adds for 128mb DUO sticks way before they had stock. Once they started carrying these sticks there were 2 iterations of the same 'type' of stick. These 2 iterations produced 2 different product codes. UK vendors (and parts of Asia) were advertising these sticks for about $130-$150USD while I was already buying them for about $60-$70USD in my backyard at that time. They couldn't roll them out on time while I had no problems getting them for much cheaper. That's how the market worked at the time.
So as far as 256mb Duos vendors had already been advertising them for weeks here. However, these vendors have printed inaccurate descriptions... Some had different product codes, but they all pointed towards the same item. That's the bottom line.

Fair enough BigFeat.
I remain convinced however, due to the amount of online retailers stating the exactly same thing.
But monday we might just see if the rumors are true

It would be nice if SonyEricsson man would post the manufacturer product #. I guarantee I can get an answer for that product number before Monday...
BTW: Don't confuse the vendors sku/part # with the product part #... Make doubly sure it sais: "Manufacturer Part #:......." or something very similar along those lines...

I would say that BigFeat is right.
I suggest you guys look around at
www.memorystick.org and
http://www.memorystick.com/en/index.html
Everything you need to know is there.
Below is the MS family. Anybody see any MS Duo 256 MB there ?
http://www.memorystick.org/eng/aboutms/family.html
Here is a specification as well (look at bottom). Anybody see support of MS Duo larger than 128MB ?
http://www.memorystick.org/eng/topics/produo/index.html
And at last, here is a FAQ as well.
