The update worked fine for me, I upgraded from CDA 162003/5 R1A04 to CDA 162003/5 R2C01.
The process takes about 30 minutes over a DSL connection. I'd imagine it would take double that using dial-up.
Do back-up and synchronize before it as the site suggests because you will lose everything, and I mean everything, on the phone.
Beats going to the authorized service centre!
