Actually, if you phone to get a PAC code from Orange by choosing the "If you're thinking of leaving Orange" option from their automated service, you will be put through to the "retention" department, where they will offer you a FAR FAR better deal than the standard upgrade prices. You can always get your PAC code and still stay with Orange as it expires if not used within 30 days.

I was offered a free T610 from the retention department (£30 from the upgrade team!), but chose to port to O2 anyway as I wanted a Z600.

Remember - you don't get anything if you don't ask and they WILL want to keep your business.

Thanks Sculli. I'll give it a go tomorrow. Just to go off topic a bit, does anyone remember the program called Sculli in the 80s? I think it was about a lad that was wanting to play professional football or something like that.

Mmmm...... no! I have to say that's a new one on me. I'm more associated with the X-Files, unfortunately!

Let us know how you get on with Orange - and if they won't cut you a deal, don't be afraid to port across to a different provider. All the networks seem to have reasonable deals on at the moment - especially the "online" tariffs. And as most tariffs seem to involve cross-network minutes and various data bundles there really is plenty to choose from.

Have a good one!!

@Beninio,
. Just before your Orange contract finishes, you buy a Virgin sim card (simcard only) have your Orange number ported to that sim.
You can port the number back to a fresh Orange contract 3 months later.

Its the only way

@Beninio

Make sure to get acquainted with cancelation policies - I reckon your account will remain active for 90 days after you move to Virgin, i.e. 90+ days to wait for your new phone.

It is true that sometimes if you call to cancel they will give you a good deal for retention purposes, but never as good as for the new customers.

When I called T-Mobile here in the US to get a new phone, they were willing to "upgrade" me to T610 for $170, their retention dept lowered that to $99 (in exchange for an additional year of contract). Instead, I started a new line with T-Mobile, got T610 for free + $150 rebate. go figure.

Unfortunately, I had to part with my phone #.

Thanks pachy and moodswinger.
So is it that you have to wait 3 months before you can rejoin orange, or 3 months before you can port your number back to orange?

You can join Orange at ANY time with a new number, but you will not be treated as a new customer if you wnt to keep a number that you had on Orange within 3 months, best confirm this with Orange though, as all things can change.
