if it makes you feel any better i cant find the "*" in the add symbol menu either!
i also really miss the "return" character. i like to paragraph my SMS's. at the moment i've just put the return character in my clipboard so i can go to "text options/paste"
if you use the "*" alot maybe you could do a similar thing?

You can also look for the extended characters in your P800/P900, just go to 'help' (in almost every program it can be found in the pulldownmenu 'edit').
Then look for 'handwriting recognition', tap and scroll down... you will see all gestures complete with images
