Needles to say I wouldn't risk it in my phone, which is strange because when I get a new pc with a DVD player or writer the first thing I do is go to an excellent firmware site and download the RPC-1 (multiregion) firmware for the drive.

Well, a DVD ROM is a lot cheaper than a phone should anything goes wrong

Of course it is possible to "edit" the firmware. How do you think they create the firmware in the first place? On a computer! But it is extremely difficult to reverse-engineer the firmware into proprietary source code, and then change it.

well i've seen this done before with the sl45.

they took the firmware, found what everything means (addresses etc) and managed to change practically everything on the phone. by they i'm not sure who but some clever people.

anything that doesn't need extra hardware can be done.

i'm talking upside down screens, inverted screens, making the 1 minute beep during a call beep at 50 seconds so you have time to hang up, multitasking (in mp3 player you can access the main menu).

it's good stuff and if anything goes wrong all you have to do is uplaod the original firmware back onto the phone. it sounds a bit dodgy but it works.

they cracked the firmware of the sony j5 as well. Had a different attenna level and battery meter. Added a new program in the games as well i heard. Did quite a bit of other things to it as well. And all you have to do is reflash your phone if anything went wrong.

Get an item called "DIV"

Heres a link,

After getting a backup of your phone, start poking around, but be sure to keep a clean backup of the memory!

if i were you i'd take a look at http://www.syllas.com if your interested in fw modification.

there are guys on there that have hacked the firmware of sonys J** series of phones.

thats why i've got a screensaver and 15 extra games on my J6! it was also posible to edit EVERY icon in the phone to something else drawn in paint!

especially look for a guy called r00t - he started it all if i remember correctly. here is his site http://r00t.ssxh.net/

hope this is of interest to some1?
