There is a common fault with the p800/p900, when the main drive becomes full, it crashes and wont start again. It crashes because there is no spare memory to startup the OS. In some cases the phone will vibrate and the intro screen will be shown but nothing else.

Theres no way round this other that to send it back to sony to get the whole thing reset resulting in a loss of everything

There was some talk of starting the phone, removing the battery and continue this process untill the the phone displays 'corrupt data file' (or something similar) and lets you reformat.

welcome.

I have been a regular visitor of Esato for a while but I have not heard of P900s failing because of memory shortage. IMO a memory shortage also shows that the user dose not understand how to best use the device. I have lost my data on Palm devices because I did not know how to use "hacks". The P900 is provided with a 32MB Duo card and all apps and data, where possibe, should be stored on the Duo.

Regarding a reset after a full memory problem in a P800, the trick is to take the SIM out and when the phone reboots it will complain about the SIM. I believe it is possible to invoke the Service Menu at this point to reformat the c: drive.

if your phone isnt responding at all to the power button then theres not a lot you can do. as a last resort, you could take out the internal memory powercell and short the terminals. i havent tried this on a p800 but its got a good chance of working i reckon cos i did it on a t68 and all was sweet. if you dont mind taking it apart that is, its completely safe and easy though.

Thanks switchbitch that is the best answer so far. For some who said that the mem is full, I only had the phone for about 20mins from the shop! so I couldn't have installed anything on the way home. So it is not the full mem, thanks thou.

Dear P-800er.

I am not being a hero! But thanks for even thinking that I could be in that league! Well it is in a SE serivce point and have been for a while, you see, I added this post before X mass, which means???? Eveything is closed and all is on holidays!!!!!

I go away on the 1st for about a month and really need my phone for checking emails, So I come to a place called Esato.com to ask a question that I dont know?? I dont know everything, thats what Esato.com is good for. I was hoping it was a simple problem, so I could just fix it and dont worry about sending it away!

I am sure there are other users out there that have fixed problems here and did not need to send it away, that what I was hopping for. The reason I kept coming back because users were not answering the question I was asking! Which is no drama so I need to give them a more detailed story. It has come to an agreement that there is no Hard reset button on this phone. But no one said that they gave me different answers.

I am not trying to be a hero! I am trying to see if there is a hero here, which you are not! I have been coming here and have learnt that there are some people here that know more about the P800 then SE does.

So what is your problem for me coming here and askig a simple question??

Oh and my phone is still not here, I handed it in the day after it happened! I was just following the question though which might help in the future.

Yeah, Im going away to compete in a few races. Thanks for noticing. You dont get much leisure things doing what I do, must always take care of yourself etc...... But its well and worth it!

The reason I really need my phone is because I have not signed a contract deal for next year and I must respond very quickly to these email or I could lose a deal. But now I am waiting for SE to fix it! they better hurry!

@ Jah

My mistake here, i wasnt talking about the p900, i believe the problem has been fixed. Its only one of the older versions of firmware concerning the p800.

Ive been speaking with sony, and they claim its a recognised fault. Ok, so it was my mistake i was leaving my pictures on the C because i only have a 16MB duo. But when the C drive becomes full, the OS cant start (which i dont understand because i though it has seperate memory put aside for this function). When you get to this point you have one error message, ''memory full'' then the phone crashes.

Once the phone is then restarted it shows the intro screen and virbrates but doesnt load the OS. When you get to this stage, theres nothing you can do, buttons dont work, touchscreen doesnt work, regardless of removing the battery or sim card etc. SE said the only thing for me to do was to take it to a repair center or carphone warehouse where they will flash the phone with new firmware thus resulting of a loss of data unless you have a backup.

You can read a bit more at:

@ P800_Zen_master

No theres not a button. Only a key combination, but as in my case this doesnt help when the phone doesnt start.

Cant you take it back to where you bought it and get them to replace it with one from their stock? The 30th is no sort of holiday for anyone so they should be open. Go in there and dont leave until youve got a working handset.
