P900 (and Symbian Os 7.x) can't manage filesystem over 128mb.
This is due for the fat16 fs it uses.
SonyEricsson is implementing another filesystem to allow more storage capacity.

FAT16 does not have a maximum size of 128MB per partition.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q118/3/35.asp&NoWebContent=1

Also, nowhere can I find that Symbian 7 can only handle FAT16, or that MS Duo Pro use FAT16.

I'm talkin about symbian fat16 (the filesystem used) that is limited to 128mb.

FAT16 is an industry standard and symbian even say so in this symbian knowledgebase document

and also in this document it states that EPOC allows files up to 2GB (which is the same for MS-DOS using FAT16)

I've been trying for 2 weeks since I got my phone to check out the memory sticks available. Called around numerous places when I saw that you could buy a switched duo (not pro) giving you 256mB (although only 128 available at any one time).

Told that the pro versions will not work. FULL STOP. 128mB is the max the os can recognise and write to at the moment but that se may be in the process of releasing new software to change this. She also said that I shouldn't hold my breath.

128mBx2 at nearly £100 doesn't seem too much of a bargain if it is effectively like two separate cards.

You get that much conflicting info when you call se techs that for the moment I'm just going to assume 128 is the limit and compress my mp3/mp4 as much as poss.

I think that's quite a good price, I would much prefer a single stick switching between banks rather than carrying two separate memory sticks - are these actually available or is this wishful thinking?

These Memorysticks are a complete headache!

I think a bluetooth harddrive is what someone needs to conjure up....it would defeat the purpose of items such as an Ipod..you simply open files/media from the BT harddrive as if it were a new drive on the P8/900!

Come on give a job and i will build you some funky s**t that people want!

I have read all of your comments on this issue of 128Mb being the max but have found a 256Mb DUO not PRO card on this address...

http://www.savastore.com/products/product.asp?catalog_name=Savastore&product_id=10271977&pid=45&tid=3

I phoned SONY about this and they said they didn't make one at first then said, after I told them that they did, that they did but weren't sure whether it would work with the P900!!! Can anybody tell me that is absolutely positive??
Thanks Will.
