??

When I turn PC off then on again mrouter does not show the BT COM port anymore in connection properties dialogue even though it still shows up as COM3 in device manager. Any clues & did you get the same?

@Wildcard#

You just solved my problem, thanks a lot! I had all the ports showing up in mRouter and COM4 (bluetooth) ticked, but PC Suite would not pick up the connection. I tried everything, and as my modem is COM3 and there were no conflicts, I did not think of your solution. But it works! The only pain is that I need to have my modem disabled now...

If I disable the Modem it then shows up the BT ports, Then I can re-enable the Modem & it sets up as COM 14 & all BT ports are still there. Bit of a pain. Looks like at StartUp modem detects as COM3 which interferes with BT. By doing disable/enable it lets BT ports show then sets modem as COM14 (on my system). Set modem default to COM14 but at switch on still gets back into the original condition.

Any advice welcome.

There is no COM14, really. As far as I know, a PC has 4 COM ports, all other ones are "virtual". I suspect that you have too many COM ports blocked through other devices and programmes. For example, if you have the USB cradle connected at the same time as BT, that will use up 1 COM port. Your mouse, modem, any serial connection you might have will also use one up. I for instance still had a Palm Synch programme running, which used up a COM port. Even though all these ports might be different and don't show a conflict, PC Suite won't detect the BT connection if there is no "real" COM port open. Disabling the modem is only one way of making it work. If you have a COM14 I think you have loads of other devices/programmes using up COM ports, try minimising them and you can even have your modem enabled constantly again.

Hope that helps

I don't have a modem so I can't disable its ports and I can't find a program which is using a com port on my pc. Are there programs you wouldn't suspect of using com ports but are actually using one?
ps, is there any software which shows the ports and the programs using them?
