You can get it unlocked in loads of local phone stores, we have one in Bangor, NI that does it for £15!
The only thing is with Orange, if you unlock the phone your warranty is in valid and Orange care will not cover you for anything.
Also, the reason that Orange asked you to pay the line rental upfront is because it is their policy that in the first year of contract you still do not fully own the handset and therefore are not allowed to unlock it.
If you find a way of unlocking it without in validating the warranty please do let me know.

True but bear in mind i did mine three days after the launch of the P900 so it was bound to be more expensive. As soon as people realise how to do it...it becomes the usual £10 at the local phone shop job!
