According to the SE Servlce Centre and their HQ even reflashing the phone didn't work and hence why they eventually just had to give me a new one.

Out of curiousity what does happen if you just leave it for a while with the egg timer on?

Well with mine it did nothing for quite a while (just the egg-timer goin) then would turn off and back on and do the egg-timer again.
When I left it going all night it totally drained the battery until it wouldn't even turn on. After charging it was still the same!

I never did find out what the problem was but got a new phone in the end

That exact same thing happened to me.. i was browsing wap and then that...

Nothing u can do to fix it yourself, believe me, i tried everything...

I sent it away and got it reflashed. Unfortunatly about a few weeks after that the phone just died.. totally died- black screen.

So i sent it away again and they had to replace the circuit board. U will have to send it away. Good luck with that.. i know how annoying ure situation is. :/

Hi All,

I had the same problem just before XMas. It started when
I switched on my (previously paired) BT Headset and pressed
cancell when it prompts to say a voice command immediately
after the mobile and headset handshake.

I too tried everything that has been mentioned above, no use.
No insurance so I dropped it at the local SE centre 1st week
of Jan. They said this prob sh get fixed by a firmware upgrade.
They did the firmware upgrade and later called me to say that
"When we start the phone, it shows INSERT SIM and then shows
the Egg Times againg and freezes so the same problem still exists".
They said they could send it to SE HQ or I could send it myself. I
decided to send it to SE directly myself. Got the phone back from
the local SE centre. Just for the sake of it, I switched the phone
on, it took a little longer than normal to start, but it did start
eventually and said "Insert SIM". Then I restarted with the SIM
inside and it started as fast as it usually does. And since, its been
working fine, no problems, touch wood. I now have the latest
firmware, R4C003!
I used it with my BT Headset, much better sound quality now.
Tried all other functions as well(Only hvn't syncronized with my
PC using bluetooth). I hope its going to be fine from here, fingers
crossed.

But, I wonder what sort of testing the local SE centre did after
the firmware upgrade!! Or was it actually not working when they
tried but started working when I tried!? It'll remain a mystery!!

Cheers.
