I used to have this problem when I got my P800. Orange/BT settings just never worked. After trying different things myself I now use these settings with no problems at all. (I got my P900 last week, again their settings were pants. Put these in and away it goes

)
Try these:
BASIC
Account Name: BT OPenworld
Your Name: (What ever you want)
Email address: *******@btopenworld.com
Connection Type: POP3
Internet account: Preferred
INBOX
Username: (Username of your bt a/c)
Password: (What ever ur password is)
Incoming server: mail.btinternet.com
Download: No restrictions
OUTBOX
Outgoing server: mail.btinternet.com
Use SMTP auth: (Ticked)
Use inbox login: (Ticked)
ADVANCED
Secure connection: (Not ticked)
Outgoing mail port: 25
Use MIME encoding: (Ticked)
Incoming mail port: 110
Secure password auth: (Not ticked)
Try this. If it doesn't work it may be you're preferred inernet set up. I use Orange, so mine is Orange GPRS Net. You'd have to check with your own provider. Hope this helps

The pop for bt is defo right. You then need your user name without the @btinternet/openworld part.
The smtp is genie/o2 as you can not use bt but everyone will see it as bt being clever with the settings.
Works for me on p900 and t68 so can't comment on you guys sorry.

What's messing my brain up is the double barrelled settings here.
First you have your messenging (email) account which we are talking about here.
But then with this, you must use one of your other setups wap, gprs which themselves have settings, passwords, accounts etc etc...
I never know which one is causing the problem.... grrrrrrrrrr
