A dongle is an external "locking device" for software (such as quark express mentioned above, or those Div and Terminator software for SE phones).

Then people use the word dongle for Bluetooth adapters, to indicate that it's a small device that attaches to the PC, I guess.

So if I use a infared adapter to transfer a file from my PC to phone, or vice versa, will I get charged $ from my service provider (FIDO)?
Whereas Im pretty sure I wont get charged if I use a Bluetooth adapter, am i right?

aaahhhh.....yes, about the bluetooth.

infrared
bluetooth
costs nothing other than the price of the equipment.
