We know about the online update, the current focus is the orange branding remaining on the phone after an orange update. Switch it on and off and you'll see the orange startup videos. Also if you keep up with recent happenings, you'll be aware that orange currently isn't offering the most up-to-date version of the software (Orange: R3A06, Unbranded: R4A06).

That is why we are considering other options at the moment.

What confusion! Celestica told me the latest firmware version was R3C006, yet others are talking about R4A06. Mine is R3B004. Dave_UK or Skydiver - how did you manage to get the online update service to work? Mine just comes back with the message that the phone is locked to a particular provider (Orange) and chucks me out. My phone was not bought from CPW but from Phones4free. If I asked CPW to flash it, would they want me to have bought the phone from them? My local SE Service Centre won't touch it and Orange want me to send it away?
The other question is how do you get Orange to unlock it? Where do you ring? I have a local unlocking shop that I may approach but would rather Orange did it.
I sometimes regret going to Orange as I knew nothing about this before I bought it. What a pain!

I got my P900 from Orange and have so far had no troubles.

I use the online firmware upgrader and currently have R4B01.
If I want to unlock my phone I use one of the remote unlocking services on the net. Normally costs about £10 and you can do it from the comfort of your own home. I've unlocked several for mates without troubles.

I got rid of the Orange square on my phone with nail varnish remover. The only Orange things left on my phone are the startup and shutdown vids but I'm not really bothered about them as I don't turn my phone off.

Sod all this sending it away. If you have serious problems definitely take it to a service center. You get much quicker service when you are there in person to hurry them along. Celestica were good when I had my T68 and wanted it upgrading but that was a long time ago and I hear they are shocking now.

Kearnage,
I would love to but they won't touch it. I actually travelled to their shop after being told to take it in and when I got there, they took one look at it and said "sorry, we can't touch that". Yesterdays conversation was to send it to Celestica. This really appears to be a regional thing. It depends on where you live as to what people will do for you. That's why I have been getting so much varied advice on what to do.
I think I'll sell it, end of problem.

@Kearnage. How did you get the online update to give you the version you have got. The latest Orange version is R3A06.

Lambert,
I think you'll find his number is the Organiser number, you are quoting the Phone software number. Orange quote the Phone software number. They are apparently the same update.

Yeah sorry I thought the generally accepted one to quote was the CDA number.

Mine is as follows:

Phone R3C006
Bluetooth: R5D
Organiser: R3A06
CDA: R4B01

Updated with online service.

It seems that when the service centres flash the phones, they generally flash the CDA to a generic version. I just updated my uk t-mobile p900 at R's Electrics and it now has the latest f/w (organiser r4a06 etc) but the cda is no longer the t-mobile cda and therefore, due to SE's wonderful new imei database check, comes back with a SEUS message of "Sorry, your provider has not authorised the use of this service"

Wonder if SE bothered to tell the Service Centres about this imei check 'coz anyone who gets updated with the "generic" unbranded p900 firmware and has a reset CDA can no longer use SEUS - or do the service centres get paid for every re-flash they do ?

Anyone know ?

Right!

Yesterday, I updated my Orange P900 to the following:

Phone: R3C006
Bluetooth: R5D
Organiser: R3A06
CDA: R4B01

As far as I can tell, this is the latest version available, and I did use the Online Update Service, with no error messages.

However, as for CPW (my employer) ERC's doing Orange P900 upgrades/flashes, I thought they did but will call Central Repairs and find out when I can get through and post back here the answer and, if yes, what the latest version they are upgrading to is.

Also, just remembered you used to be able to remove the startup/shutdown vids through File Manager, by simply deleting them from the system memory, so, with a bit of nail varnish, have we not solved the problem?!

Dave
