...The fact that i don't even need to apply common sense. All these viruses are written for Windows, so couldn't even effect a Mac OS X user.

But back to discussion, @jim, it was definately a joke. Not sure why people would take it otherwise. But then again people in that thread were trying to search their phones with norton which doesn't make too much sense as brainbox above discovered, if it's not designed for the platform it wont work, so not only the fact that a windows virus wont affect a symbian phone, at the same time, a program designed to find windows viruses wont find symbian one's.
I think the original discussion here is about the Mdoom virus, and I would like to agree that why do people write viruses? It's not that funny, but what will make them laugh is you having a go, and the news having a go, and all major ISP's having a go. If everyone wasn't bothered then it wouldn't be as funny. I'm sure if people are cautious in what they do they won't get viruses anyway, and if they do, then they've been unlucky.

Same here i have been getting sent viruses and i suspect it is from this site! Not the actual site but members on here :-( why does one or two idiots have to spoil it for everyone? Lost all my uni course work last time! This is a good site and you are just spoiling it!

well I'm not sure if it's to do with the site as I've only sent my email addy in pm's... But still, screaming about it will only make them feel better. I think you should just solve the problem and get protected, i dont think there is much else you can do.

Now, realise that if your system of choice becomes the system of choice for the rest of the world, that rest of the world will include all the idiot virus writers out there. Open source may be quicker at identifying faults (and potentially fixing them) but that's something I could see virus writers building into future viruses; after all, MyDoom already blocks access to most antivirus vendor sites; what's to stop a Linux virus (theoretically) stopping updates?
*i'm not trying to get anyone's back up or anything, but the only thing that really protects these systems is their
rarity, not any inherent superiority. of course, their rarity also makes them less compatible with the rest of the world too - not just viruses*
