I'd be interested to know if anyone else experienced significant battery loss whilst using Opera.

Can't really help you there, since I haven't gotten Opera to work properly yet.

I have used the SE preinstalled browser extensively, however, and it doesn't really drain power very quickly. I once surfed for an hour or so and the level didn't go down (at least, on the icon - I didn't actually check the exact battery percentage!).

You should check the percentage, its more accurate than just looking at the icon; it can be misleading, not having moved and you have dropped 4-5% I know this isn't a huge amount, but it is significant.

The inbuilt browser isn't terrible, its just not very good. I know it sounds awfully picky to say, but its true. It does what its supposed to do, its just that it doesn't do it all that well, Opera is a much better browser, but uses up far more power.

Well, I've read lots of threads here about how Opera is really good...I'm quite willing to believe everyone, except for the fact that I can't seem to get it to work on my phone!

Don't ask me why...I've uninstalled and reinstalled it a few times, and tried to browse using it...regardless of the types of connections I use (I've tried Vodafone's GPRS, O2 GPRS, O2 GSM, O2 MobileWeb), it still doesn't seem to want to access any pages. Not too sure what I'm doing wrong!

Hopefully one day I'll figure it out, then I can join you in slandering the in-built browser

I suppose you could always try formatting your phone and then trying it from scratch. Out of interest, does Opera install successfully and then you can't access web pages with it, or is it not even installing properly?
