I am just about to start on O2, with the 200 minute contract - what is the scoop on 0870 numbers?
I know on Orange the 0845 and 0870 numbers are chargeable as "non-geographical" and that really pissed me off.
Thanks in advance
Keith

If you have a high street tariff then 0845 IS included but if you have an online tariff (ie you bought your service and paid for it through the O2 website) then your 0845 calls are not included. Be interesting to hear if anyone has ever been charged for 0845 calls - both my accounts are High Street and I have never been charged for them.
Not sure about 0870 but on O2 30 to O2 400 the 0845 calls are included in your allowance and NOT charged for.
0871 numbers are definitely charged for all the time.
Also WAP calls are charged at 10p per minute - I wonder if you can use a normal ISP data call for WAP - anyone know the answer?

Found this text on a website selling O2 contracts -
Calls to personal numbering services (070 numbers) are charged at 50p per minute at all times. Calls to special services numbers (0871 numbers) are charged at 35p per minute at all times.
So it looks like 0845 and 0870 are inclusive. I did not know there was a difference between 0870 and 0871 numbers - but it turns out that many companies are moving from 0870 (national rate) to 0871 which is charged at 10p per minute from a land line and 35p per min on O2 as above.
consumers are not aware of the difference. Now, I thought that premium rate charged calls were supposed to start 090, but it appears thay've founs a way round that ...

There is a cutoff point in terms of pence per minute that requires the number to be 090 rather than 087 - not sure rate it is but it's controlled by OFTEl so it's probably on their site.
The small print is at the bottom of the O2 page on the Carphone Warehouse brochure. All the other networks charge for 0845/0870 calls but not O2.
Also use 100 to get through to them and not their 50p a minute number.

Cheers for the info mate -
We now know why so many companies have moved to 0871 numbers - they get paid 2.5p per minute upwards. So it's no wonder people are put on hold for ages - it makes them loads of money. They also get paid for 0870 numbers - just not as much.
Rip-off Britain strikes again !!!
0870 numbers are charged at national rate from a land line (free on O2)
0871 numbers are charged at 10p per min from a land line (35p per min on O2)
