One thing that is very common is that you havenīt activated the port in phone monitor in the control panel.
Only computer iīve had any probs is on a win98 with lots of sync softwares installed for siemens, ipaq and other witch stole the com ports

P900/Win2000/McAfee VirusScan Pro

I'm right with you. It's a damned nuisance!
I have tried EVERYTHING and taken some fairly
sarcastic remarks from this forum in the process.
(We arent all *born* experts... in flakey systems!)

I dont run a Firewall but I *do* run McAfee VirusScan Professional and I strongly suspect it of causing all the trouble.

After innumerable re-instals I did manage to upgrade the software on the Phone, to synchronise a couple of times and to back up the phone.

Even now I keep getting "FATAL Exception (thread ACCESS VIOLATION" error messages.

Because it sometimes works I dont believe it's the hardware.

Although my P900 is best phone I've ever seen it comes with easily the flakiest bit of software I've seen in many, many years.

Pretty disgusted.

Ship

But even if I disable

Its a little comforting to know that I am not on my own, but ultimately that makes it even worse.

Had a Nokia 5 years ago that could do everything I needed, from a PC sync point of view. Astounds me that SE could produce a phone like this, yet not get the sync software right.

To answer the questions, I have tried all the enabling options and menus that I can find and it makes no difference. But that is my point it works intermittently. Well to be totally honest, since installing Norton, it doesn't work at all.

The only option I haven't tried is obtaining a replacement sync. stn from SE. Where would I find the service centres, they do not appear to be listed on the web-site ?

The problem is is companys test software and drivers in an ideal situation. many conflicts can occure with other software you have installed this is normally the problem. i am lucky i have never had it fail.

But i have experienced these type of faults with conection to things at work.scanners and printers and mobile devices.

a rebuild on the pc is alway an option to remove any unnessasery crap that might be residing from previous installed devices that use the com ports...

Have read somewhere else on this site that anti-virus software and firewalls have a tendency to cause problems, especially when using the Online Update Service.

Can't be arsed to search for the link - just wrote an essay for my injured 12-year old sister - exhausting!

I never had any single connection problem either with my P800 or my P900. Am using XP SP1 with Norton antivirus. This message was posted from a P900

Why would you post that you never had a problem connecting with your phone and computer? This adds nothing to helping find a solution of find a way to make things work better. I have never this or never than... Who cares.

Now, if you are using XP, try deleting the USB ports from your computer via the control panel and the "System" icon. Head for device manager. After you delete them, and reboot, XP will see them again and they should be new and as fresh as virgin snow, so that when you plug in your USB cable it should go through the process of finding new equipment again.

Im jus wondering if it may be a problem with lack of RAM on your P.C.
But i seem to think it would be your U.S.B. link is not being recognised...the earlier suggestion about checkin your phone link in your system tray sounds good advice.
Well at least you have a P.C..just been tryin to help someone who has problems downloadin videos and he has a P900,but no P.C. and no access to a P.C!!

Following my expression of "frustration" detailed above, I decided to return to CPW and explain my problems with the sync thing to them.

They had no instant answer but took the phone away for a while before returning with the possible explanation that it may be the old version of the software on the phone at fault. They offered to update this for me but explained that I would lose all data (phone book, piccies etc) that were presently on the phone.

As I had been unable to do a back-up, this would be far from helpful, but he said it was the only solution he could suggest at present. He did however let me borrow the stores sync station and suggested that I re-installed PC Suite.

Returned home and attempted to un-install the existing version. I never got the "repair" option i was expecting, and never even got the remove option from the control panel. It simply tried to re-install everytime I tried. TRied to re-install over the existing version. It goes all the way through but won't complete (I left it nearly 30 mins).

Had to do ctrl-alt-del and the install was apparently unfinished and not responding.

The incorrectly installed version doesn't work, and isn't even detecting the stn when I plug i the USB

Now completely lost as to what to try next.

(Using W98SE and yes I have downloaded dcom98 as suggested in readme)
