GMG- You are right about VS, they do have some good benefits and I hope they keep up the good work, otherwise ATT and other carriers switching to GSM will each them alive.
Can you explain how you got around the problem with VS once more time, i lost you on the dial up part
thanks

Harley,
To access WAP without GPRS, your T68 dials up a modem, just like your computer would. Voicestream provides the access number 9132440821, which is currently not working in my area. It is for this reason that I "dialed around" them. Your T68 also needs a gateway server to connect you to WAP pages. You can't use the voicestream gateway if you dial around, because it won't let you acess it unless you do so through their modem. This is why you need a "public" gateway.
1. In the Connect section of the main menu, choose Data comm., then Data Accounts, then Add Account.
2. Account Type is GSM; Phone Number, Username, DNS, and Password are your Dialup ISP's settings. If you have long distance for free in your Voicestream plan, you may set up the phone number as one of those on Nocharge.com's website (the numbers are all in the state of Washington), else you'll either need to get/use a local dialup account or pay long distance charges for WAP access.
Leave the data rate at 9.6 and try either Analog or ISDN, i'm not sure how this will affect things. Mine works with analog.
3. Then, in the WAP services Menu, choose WAP Settings and set up a new profile. Choose Gateway, then IP settngs. Set the profile to connect with the data account you just set up. Then, choose IP address and enter 195.058.110.201. User ID and Password here remain blank, and I believe that you can forget about the other settings in the profile, unless you get impatient waiting for a timeout, then you may set the response timer to 25.
One note about nocharge.com's service: they don't allow SMTP servers to connect because their service was abused by spammers. So, if you send/receive with this data account in your email on your T68, you will be able to check mail but not send it.

you guys are gonna trade high speed connection for dial up.
I debated. I'd rather go into connect - network .... and then choose SELECT NETWORK, not search. Usually when I see "no access" i still have 2-4 bars of antenna...so my signal strength is fine. You already have a list of networks on your phone. Might as well choose one thats already there instead of searching for one where ever you are. Also heard a software update helps with this problem.

I have a friend with Voicestream living in Portland.
He says GPRS sucks and so does the voice coverage. He just got an AT&T SIM and is happy with the coverage now. Give it a try and put up feedback about it

I'm gonna stick with voicestream....3000 anytime minutes for $49.99 Been using that plan for over a year now. I don't even need a landline phone. Some ppl say their coverage isn't good...Granted other service providers have better coverage, but where ever I go, my phone seems to work just fine.

emailed voicestream about the "no access" problem. Here's what they said.
Thank you for taking the time to contact VoiceStream Wireless. AT&T has
launched their GSM service in your city, causing some problems for other
carriers systems in your city. Voicestream is currently working with AT&T and
other carriers in your city to fix the problem.
If you have any other comments, questions or concerns, please feel free to
contact us anytime.
Thank you for choosing VoiceStream Wireless.
Sincerely,
