If it is just a software issue maybe you p900 guys can try the program called keymapper (available at my-symbian) and assign the function the button now has again to this action.

Maybe it will work,don't know because l don't own a p900 (unfortunately)

i've solved it now, by connecting the two pins together. although i am a little uncomfortable about "modding" the phone in such a way
