why can't it? i don't know why anyone would want to when there is good old windows to hit but why couldnt a virus be written for a smartphone or symbian os? im sure it could but would just be pretty pointless. mobile security will be a big thing soon imo.

I totally agree, there is no reason why it cannot be done!

impossible is a very big word. Lazy IT monkeys, on the other hand, is quite a nicely sized one. Every time my PC goes wrong the IT guy in charge says "well we should reformat the drive and reload the OS, it's a virus" Bloody lazy nonsense.
I would be intrigued if someone had written a virus that affects the P900 OS, I would be very surprised if it would propogate at all, and would be deeply shocked if someone managed to subvert the update process. And for what? To piss off a couiple of mobile phone users? Not impossible, but highly unlikely.
No. I suggest instead that the SE update process is buggy as all hell and has rogered your phone to within an inch of its life, probably by trying to install windows XP on it or somesuch nonsense. I did a firmware update the other day, in the hope of getting my HBH 200 to work with the phone list (as suggested in another thread.)
A) it didn't work (the HBH still can't read the phone list)
B) after the restore I now have all the demo / chess etc stuff that I had previously deleted from the phone back on there but it no longer appears on the uninstallable apps list, which is thoroughly confusing.
Why don't SE just issue downloads like normal companies, or is my semi-IT compatible brain missing something?
All that said, this is the coolest gadget I have ever had, all I need is cheap GPRS please santa

Of course it can be done. Viruses have been written for the Palm OS platform. Um, about three of them I think.
The most known of them is the infamous Liberty virus, which wasn't really a virus, but simply a hacked version of the program that corrupted data on the machine in order to prevent illegal use of the software. It is said that the developer did this on purpose, so it wasn't really a virus, but simply a mean copy protection system.
In addition, most viruses are carried out to screw with Microsoft and its servers. Look closely and you'll find that there are plenty of viruses for Windows, but merely a few for Unix and Linux.
I think SE was just full of shit.

OK the bloody CPW has `lost` my P900. It was sent from them to SE, SE have no record of the phone.
Have phoned CPW a few time and been told they will phone me back but they have not.
What can I do?
Is CPW responsable for the loss?
Can I walk in to the Cardiff store and demand (nicely

) a replacement?
What can I do?
Sad Sad Stan

Assuming that CPW admit accepting the phone from you, them they (or their parcel carrier) are liable surely?
