Just to get the facts straight, IrDA supports speeds up to 4Mbps theoretical, that's 4 times what bluetooth does. Of course, as it needs line of sight, and the range is pretty short, it's just a complete pain.
Bluetooth forever!

There is something called HSCSD (maybe high speed circuit switched data) which will allow you to use higer speed without GPRS..
Ask your network operator about it.. to be able to use it, they have to support it..
hscsd- it will dial up your sp.
i think gprs offer higher speed.
i guess 9600 is your sp's top speed.

I'm using Dutchtone in The Netherlands and they just don't support HSCD so too bad. About using my phone as a modem, I just installed all software of the CD that came with it (including the modem driver, also available for download on the net), connected it by IrDa and the phone was recognized as a modem and could be used by a normal Dial-Up connection from Windows. Though the speed here is only 9600 bps

Well, there are but they're to bloody expensive for that crap. But my SP will have it somewhere in the future too but that's a matter of time. and besides it's not really necessary at the moment but it would have been nice to be able to use aoll functions I paid for
