Could anyone look at the possibility of having the phone in your pocket (tight) and compressing the flip against the side of the screen without you knowing... As I can see it it will take thousand times of flip closing and opening to damage that or maybe more..

I agree with you masseur. Even with the "rubbers" I still get the feeling that there is a plastic sound when closing the flip no matter how slow I close it. So far no marks on my phone and no scratches. Am a bit surprised that SE didnt do anything better than that i.e. softer or slight bigger rubber. Anyhow they minimized the problem on the P800 with this design improvement on the P900. My P800 started having marks on the side from te flip after 15 days but not because of the contact while closing the flip but because of the contact and friction while using the flip to dial numbers etc.

The flip of the P900 is, whilst a vast improvement over the P800's, a tad weak. It squeaks and the brown cable that connects it to the actual phone happens to touch the hinge, making the flip squeak when opened or closed.
I fixed that issue with some of my bitch's lip-gloss, but it has worn off by now and the squeaking gay gerbil is back.

After reading all of these posts on this subject I am worried about my new SE900.
Is the answer to remove the flip altogether so no damage can be done?
