I dont know anything really about how cameras work... but the T610 is less than 2cm in width (or depth, whichever you call it) so i dont see how the distance between the camera's lens and the CMOS sensor is 3.3cm (33mm).

Geez! Even the
P800/P900's photos are fuzzy compared to the Communicam!!! What is this world coming to when the smaller cheaper camera is better than the one that comes with a $800 USD camera. I do know that we're buying phones first, with cameras built in, but still! To have an older camera be better than the newer ones! That's sad!

You have to consider that the add on camera might be better quality because of its size. Cameras built into the phones themselves have to be squeezed in to the phones casing, whereas an add on camera can be as big as the manufacturer makes it.
Im not suprised the T68i's add on camera is better quality than the T6xx's.

that would be true if they have to be in line with one another...... but I am not so sure they do??

But the P800 and P900 are pretty bulky. I know that the Touchscreen has to do with this a little, but still, they are pretty high end. You'd think the camera would be too.

I think the K700's camera is the best ive seen from SE, apart from the 1mp camera phones. IMHO its easily better than the mca series.
I think back when the P900 was released they could have fitted a better camera into the phone, but to keep costs down on an already hugely expensive phone they simply fitted the same camera that was used in the P800. Also, if they had put a better camera into the P900 it would probably have effected sales of the Z1010 too much, the people holding out for it would probably not bother knowing a SE phone already existed with a better camera.

I too noticed that pics taken with the cam attachments are better than my T616 pics! :-(

Hello there

!
This is my first post and it has the main reason to correct an explanation given by DungeonMaster in 2004-06-14 16:48 about the distance between the lens and the sensor improves the picture quality!
@DungeonMaster:
In your post, the only thing that's right is that the number (i.e. T610, 33mm) printed in the camera is
a distance between the lens and the camera sensor,
Focus Length) but in Digital Cameras it doesn't always represent the real Focus Length of the Camera. The number represents the focus length of a conventional camera of "35mm film". In other words, when they say that i.e. T610 has 33mm , they mean that you would have the same
picture angle of a conventional camera of “35mm film” with F.L. of 33mm. However the F.L. of T610 is smaller because the sensor is not a “35mm film”, it’s a CMOS or CCD.
The F.L. doesn’t interfere with the picture quality; it interferes with the picture angle (Zoom). That’s why, to do optic zoom the camera pulls the lens out, making bigger the F.L.
I’m waiting for the

K700 that has printed 4.1mm, which means the real focus length but it’s not useful because we don’t know the measure of the phone camera chip sensor. If we know that, we can calculate the Picture angle!!!
Picture angle of a "35mm film" with F.L. of 30mm:
Picture angle of a "35mm film" with F.L. of 100mm:
Have a nice day.
