My guess is that it has something to do with the regular antenna too. When i make or recieve a call, in an area where there's a weak signal, and i hold the phone in my hand and accidentally cover the gold thingie with my thumb or palm, it immediately affects the signal. When i remove my hand, the quality gets better.....

With that word too, i meant, as mentioned above. Cause some of the reply's posted above you're first comment, where contradicting you're theorie.
I just wanted to support your vision, by giving an example.
