I use CDex, it's freeware and it's supports .ogg files if you want to encode(convert) CD's into really small files on your phone.

Try AWAVE audio version 9, its awesome. Probably one of the best for volume modifying mp3s. It costs $49 but you get a 30 day trial.

I've got SoundForge & it is really excellent but I don't have the MP3 Plugin for it, so it tells me.
Anyway I save files as WAVs with SF & use dbPoweramp to convert to MP3. It's free & really simple.

One question:
What do u think are optimum MP3 settings (bit rate, frequency etc) for good sound but small file for the phone?
I currently use about 96kbps @ 22010Hz I think.
