Try using fileman. Access the drive where you saved your mp3s and mp4s. Click attributes and uncheck the boxes. Let's see if your unit can recognize the files now...
This is an interesting problem and one which perhaps was overlooked by SE. Good thing they read these forums, now they will know for next time.
