Sounds intruiging, but a little too late as I've already sent the phone back to O2 for a replacement.
I spoke to the engineer at Nottingham CPW and he says it doesn't sound like a software fault since it had the latest firmware on there. He said we could give it a go, but he's not there on my next day off, etc... so I couldn't be arsed.
I did try a Virgin SIM in there too, and it suffered from the same fault -- but that doesn't disprove the 3g thing though.
My manager got a Orange K700i on the same day, and his works fine. Though I guess that will have an older firmware with Orange being as slow as they are with updates
Will probably have to wait 2 weeks now for a replacement, as O2 Online aren't the most effecient at getting phones out!
I'll keep you all informed when the replacement arrives.
I take it no-one else has suffered from this problem then?

Well, the good news is I got confirmation from the Insurance company that they have accepted my appeal and I can go ahead and make the claim - so brand new P900 for me on Monday (straight on ebay!).
I'll also call O2 Online tomorrow and see if they have received the phone so I can order another one
